Wellington - A New Zealand teenager dubbed the "Piddler on the Roof" after being caught on a security camera urinating into a carpark coin machine was let off without a formal conviction when he appeared in court on Wednesday. Sarron John Malot, 18, a chef, was ordered to pay the Napier City Council compensation of 200 New Zealand dollars (142 US dollars) after pleading guilty to a charge of intentionally damaging the machine on July 5.
Malot insisted after the hearing that he had only urinated once on the machine, despite the council claiming earlier that it had been doused four or five times in the past year.
He claimed he had not deliberately aimed at the machine but couldn't stand properly after a night out with friends.
A detective, who dubbed him the "Piddler on the Roof" because the machine was on the second floor of a parking building, said earlier, "he pees up in the air in a big arc, so it goes in the coin slot and out the hole where people collect their tickets."
Malot apologized and told reporters that he did not want to be known forever as the Piddler on the Roof, adding, "But who hasn't pissed in public?"
