Former major leaguer Irabu arrested for assault in Japan

Tokyo - Japanese police arrested former major league baseball player Hideki Irabu Wednesday on suspicion of physical assault, Japanese media reported. Irabu, who is said to have drunk 20 mugs of beer before the incident, allegedly attacked a restaurant manager in the western city of Osaka early Wednesday after having a trouble with his credit card. The 39-year-old Japanese baseball player pitched for the New York Yankees from 1997 till 1999, when he was traded to the Montreal Expos. He also had a short stint with the Texas Rangers. Irabu admitted to the charges, Kyodo News Agency said.
