London - Sweden midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg reached agreement with West Ham United Wednesday to terminate his contract. "I gave my all at West Ham and enjoyed my time there but the decision is the best for the both of us," the 31-year-old told the club's website.
"Now I will take my time to consider my football future."
Ljungberg captained his country at Euro 2008, and the club have confirmed that his departure is not related to his fitness.
It is believed the former Arsenal player earned around 85,000 pounds (166,000 dollars) a week, and that he has agreed a pay-off of around 6 million pounds.
The decision strengthens concerns about West Ham's finances. Bobby Zamora and John Pantsil have already left the club, while goalkeeper Rob Green has said he feels "undervalued" on the wages he's on.
