Seoul - Citizens groups plan to protest US beef imports to South Korea when President George W Bush visits the country on Tuesday, an organizer of the protests said Monday. The peaceful protests are intended to show the US delegation South Koreans are unhappy at the reopening of the market to US beef, a spokesman for an alliance for measures against mad cow disease said.

Beef imports resumed in April after a five-year ban imposed following cases of mad cow disease in the United States.

South Koreans fear a connection between the illness, also called bovine spongiform encephalopathy or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a fatal brain disorder in humans.

South Koreans have staged a series of demonstrations against the imports, some of which resulted in violent clashes with police and prevented Bush from paying a visit last month during the G8 summit in neighbouring Japan.

Reports said up 16,000 riot police had been drafted in to protect Bush, who is making South Korea the first leg of a week-long Asian tour that will also take him to Thailand and China.

In Seoul, Bush is to meet South Korean President Lee Myung Bak, and thank him for reopening the markets to US beef-on-the bone imports. Lee visited the US in March at the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland.

The two men will also mark the 55th anniversary of US-South Korean ties.

The US president is due to travel to Bangkok on Wednesday for his second visit to Thailand where he plans to meet with Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.

The US president is to participate in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Beijing on Friday.

During his four-day China stay from Thursday to Monday, Bush plans to meet President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and the Vice President Xi Jinping.

Bushi is an honored guest in korea
By: chae sone , Tue, 05 Aug 2008 06:41:04 GMT

WELLCOME MR. BUSH TO KOREA

We welcome President George W. Bush’s visit to Seoul, South Korea. His visit is a highest honor to Koreans.

On August 15, 1945, the United States Forces liberated Korea from the Japanese colonial yoke.

Then, five years later, when the North Korean
Communists invaded South Korea, General Douglas MacArther as the commander of the United Nations Forces drove them out of
the land and rescued us from their cruelty.

We are grateful for more than 50,000 Americans and others sacrificed their precious lives for us.

Needless to say our country is still separated into North and South. But we all pray that the unified happy days would come to us all sooner.
Now we are very prosperous because of our hard work and the friendly economic aids from United States and other countries.

We never forget that time has come for us to help others in hardship of war and disasters in foreign lands to pay back our debts of love and peace.

Our social conditions have been highly improved equally as in quality.

A noticeable phenomenon is the
Mad cow dancing.

A quality and equality of social life also means the improvement of living standards in quality. It also means a dietary improvement for their daily living.

When people well off economically, their diets improve as well. The beef import to Korea from America signifies the highly improved living standards of Koreans.

Now anyone in any social class could eat tasty nutritious beef, as it is plentiful and cheap in Korea.

In our poor old economic days, only rich and powerful could have eaten good meals or beef. But Koreans now are very much equally privileged to eat tasty American beef too. The Mad cow demonstrators soon come to your dinner table to appreciate beef, tasty beef when they realize that even Mr. Bush eats beef and does well as the president of the world, then why we shouldn’t? Thus, the mad cow myth would be disappearing soon as happy beef days come to every Korean.

American aids helped us to have a good life as it is today and ever more. We should be grateful for their good will and sacrifices for us.

Mr. Bush deserves our heartiest welcome. Don’t forget that we should pay a highest tribute to General MacArther for his bravery.
.
Now Koreans become respectable on the international stages as we can pay back our debts to other people. So that we could maintain our international good will and peace.

Mr. Bush’s insightful policy of the denuclearization is winning. One day the comrades from the workers’ paradise should be able to come enjoy the beef feast in the
free unified Korea.

God bless America and Korea
