New York - The suspect in the beheading of a fellow passenger on a Canadian bus reportedly ate the flesh of his victim afterwards, a Canadian news report said Sunday. The suspect, who has been identified as a newspaper deliverer in Edmonton, in western Canada, reportedly was observed "hacking off pieces" of his victim and "eating it," according to a leaked recording of Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the accident scene, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported online.

The suspect was still on the bus with the dead body after other passengers bailed out and barricaded the door to prevent his escape.

The killing took place Wednesday, when the suspect repeatedly stabbed and then beheaded a passenger on a Greyhound Canada bus as horrified travellers watched helplessly.

The victim was sleeping with his head against the window, when he was attacked by the man sitting beside him.

After the killing, the attacker apparently walked up to the front of the bus with the head in his hand, and then dropped it. He was eventually taken into custody.

The bus was traveling along the Trans-Canada highway from Edmonton to Winnipeg and was about 45 minutes from its destination when the attack occurred.

The 80-second recording was posted on the internet until it was blocked on Saturday afternoon. The RCMP have issued a statement saying they had not given permission to use the transmission.
