Tokyo - Nintendo Co's net profit marked record high in the April-June period, thanks to strong demand for Wii game consoles, the company said Wednesday. The Japanese game company's net profit jumped 33.7 per cent in the April-June period from the same period a year before to 107.27 billion yen (996.22 million dollars).
Operating profit surged 31.5 per cent to 119.19 billion yen, and sales soared 24.4 per cent to a first-quarter record 423.38 billion yen, up 24.4 per cent.
Sales of Wii rose nearly 51 per cent to 5.17 million units in the April-June quarter, compared to a year earlier, the company said.
Despite the record earnings, Nintendo maintained its full-year projections unchanged with net profit of 325 billion yen, up 26.3 per cent, and with sales of 1.8 yen trillion yen, up 7.6 per cent.
