Berlin - Barack Obama followed a well-trodden American trail in the Berlin night after his major speech at the German capital's Victory Column, it emerged Friday. He and some of his team ended up in Borchardt's, a posh city restaurant that has already hosted the likes of Bill Clinton, Bruce Willis, George Clooney and Tom Cruise.
Not that the Illinois senator - known for his fastidious taste for healthy food - joined the rest of the team in actually eating something.
Staff at the restaurant confirmed that Obama - in lively mood among a very relaxed group, the bodyguard contingent reduced to a minimum - declined to order anything.
The party took over a section of the restaurant after the senator decided at the last moment not to go straight back to the nearby Adlon Hotel where he was staying.
The group stayed for an hour or so before leaving at around eleven at night, with Obama - already so wildly cheered by the 200,000 crowd during his earlier speech - exiting to more applause from those present to witness the unexpected guest.
