London - A strikingly "real" waxwork model of troubled British soul singer Amy Winehouse, complete with her trademark beehive hairdo and sailor tattoos, was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in London Wednesday. The Amy model, placed in the Music Zone of the world-renowned museum Madame Tussauds, is presented in a typical thigh-skimming mini dress, black stilettos, red hooped earrings and dramatic eye makeup.
The figure captures her frozen in full song and with "Blake's pocket" above her left breast - a reference to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently in jail for assaulting a pub owner and plotting to escape trial by seeking to bribe witnesses.
"It captures her totally. ... I can't get over the tattoos, they are perfect," said Amy's father, taxi-driver Mitch Winehouse, at the unveiling ceremony.
He took the opportunity to thank Madame Tussaud's for "rising above the general hype, the bad publicity about Amy," by recognizing her musical talent.
"As a family we are incredibly grateful to Madame Tussauds," said Mitch Winehouse, who was accompanied by his wife, Janis.
Amy, 24, who has a history of drug and alcohol addiction, was currently doing "really well" on a drug rehabilitation programme, he said.
"If Blake comes out of prison and proves to be a positive influence on Amy, then they will have a fantastic life. ... The other option is just not tenable," said Mitch Winehouse.
"Amy wants to have children, probably with Blake, and they will become her drug of choice because she is mad about kids," he added.
Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months by a London court this weeek, but is expected not to have to serve the full term.
