Sea Cloud Hussar now to be launched in 2010Hamburg - The new tall ship Sea Cloud Hussar will set sail for the first time in spring 2010 and not in 2009 as originally planned, the Hamburg-based owners announced recently. The postponement has been caused by delays in the supply of materials to the shipyard near Vigo in Spain where the vessel is being constructed. It is not clear if the Sea Cloud Hussar, which is said to be the largest fully-rigged passenger tall ship ever built, will still sail from Mallorca to Piraeus in Greece on its maiden voyage as scheduled. ---

Sydney Opera House star designs for Denmark

Aalborg, Denmark - The architect of the world-famous Sydney Opera House, Jorn Utzon, has designed a spectacular multi-purpose building for his home city of Aalborg in Denmark. The recently-opened Utzon Center on the waterfront consists of five separate entities joined by an outdoor courtyard and colonnade. There is an 2,400 square metre exhibition centre, an auditorium for conferences and an archive with drawings and Utzon designs. The inaugural exhibition concentrates on the Sydney Opera House, the most important work of the architect now in his 90th year. ---

Moscow showcases Glasnost art

Moscow - "Glasnost" (transparency) and "Perestroika" (restructuring) were not just the mottoes of Russia's political renaissance but represented liberation for many of the country's artists. The Glasnost/Perestroika exhibition at the centrally-located Gallery One on the Smolenskaya Embankment in Moscow gives an overview of Russian underground or "Soz-Art" from the 1980s and 90s. The gallery offers nearly 600 square metres of space and fine views of the Moskva River. The show runs until August 30 as a cooperation between Berlin-based art dealer Volker Diehl and Moscow's Kira art Foundation.
