New Delhi, Jan 19 President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Friday appointed former Intelligence Bureau director E.S.L. Narasimhan and former Kerala finance minister K. Shankaranarayanan as governors of Nagaland and Chhattisgarh respectively.According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué, Shankaranarayanan would replace Shyamal Dutta, whose term expires Jan 27.Narasimhan would be the governor of Chhattisgarh with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, said the communiqué.The press release said Meghalaya Governor M.M. Jacob would be in charge also of Arunachal Pradesh as Shilendra Kumar Singh, the governor of the state, is going on leave.According to the sources, Narasimhan was originally to take charge of the Raj Bhavan in Nagaland but he expressed his reservation. So he was shifted to Chhattisgarh.The other states that need governors are Andhra Pradesh, where the post has been vacant since Sushilkumar Shinde became a minister in the Manmohan Singh cabinet, and Karnataka, where T.N. Chaturvedi is due to retire. Tamil Nadu Governor S.S. Barnala holds additional charge of Andhra Pradesh.Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura will also get new governors. According to reliable sources, there will be new governors in Delhi and Haryana too.
