New York - The wife of baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez filed for divorce Monday accusing him of infidelity. But controversial singer Madonna denied any involvement with Rodriguez, despite numerous reports of late night trysts between the two. "The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," said the divorce petition of Cynthia Rodriguez, 35. The couple have been married for six years and have two children, Natasha, 2 and Ella, 3 months. The petition asked for Cynthia to be named the primary parent in the couple's 12 million dollar Miami home, with parents sharing custody.
The divorce petition did not name Madonna. But Earle Lilly a lawyer for Cynthia Rodriguez, told celebrity website TMZ.com that Alex has a "series of dalliances" and that "Madonna was the last straw."
However in a statement to People magazine, Madonna insisted, "I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage."
Her statement followed widespread reports of Rodriguez visiting her late at night at her New York apartment, prompting speculation that Madonna's seven year marriage to British film director Guy Ritchie was also on the rocks. Madonna has also denied those rumours.
When the scandal surfaced last week Cynthia Rodriquez sought refuge in the Paris apartment of rocker Lenny Kravitz, who denied any romantic involvement between the two.
