Vienna - Austria's Social Democratic Party agreed to the call for early elections made by their conservative coalition partner on Monday, Austrian media reported. The People's Party called for an early vote, possibly in September, over the social democrats' leadership crisis and change in EU policy.
The social democratic president of parliament, Barbara Prammer, confirmed that her party would support a parliamentary move for new elections.
Social democratic Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer will not run again as top candidate, several party leaders said.
