Karachi - At least eight people died and more than a dozen were injured on Sunday when a 4-storey residential building collapsed in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi. The building, located in Baldia Town, a locality where mostly lower middle class factory and office workers live, caved in before dawn.
"We are still sifting out those buried and looking for any more dead bodies," said a paramedic from CHIPPA, a private volunteer service.
The chief fire officer of Karachi, Ehtesham Siddiqui, said a two- year-old child and two women were among the dead.
He blamed the sub-standard construction material for the collapse of the building, where six to seven families were residing.
