Baghdad - At least eight people were killed, including two children, and 16 injured in separate attacks in Iraq on Sunday, security sources said. There worst incident claimed seven lives in the northern province of Diyala, where an official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Mohamed Ramadan, survived an assassination attempt.
The official's wife, two of his children and three guards were among those who died when a bomb went off near his motorcade, a statement posted on the party's website said.
Four were injured in the blast, including Ramadan himself, his son and two other people.
Also in Diyala, north-east of Baghdad, an Iraqi army soldier was killed and four were injured when a bomb went off while they were on patrol in Baquba, a security source told Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency.
In north Baghdad, a car bomb went off, injuring eight people in the Shiite al-Shaab district, VOI reported.
Meanwhile, security forces detonated another car bomb in the same district.
