Helsinki - Joni Juntunen Saturday maintained Finland's record of producing world champions in woman-carrying, lugging his partner Jaana Haaviko over a 100-metre stretch in half a minute. Their time of 30.3 seconds beat the field of five couples taking part in the woman-carrying sprint final at the Jux Championships in the Finnish town of Sonkajarvi.
While Finland took the sprint, the "marathon" went to Estonian couple Priit and Karina Kongi. Here, the man has to carry his woman partner piggy-back as far as possible for six minutes. The Kongis managed 1.185 kilometres.
The woman-carrying "world championships" - which this year attracted a crowd of 300 - have been held since 1992.
The rules stipulate that carried women must weigh at least 50 kilos, and be handicapped with weights to this level if they are lighter.
