Moscow - A gas explosion in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi killed a 14-year-old boy and his grandmother and wounded 16 people, Itar-Tass news agency reported Wednesday. A 12-storey building in the city which is to host the 2014 Winter Olympics was badly damaged when a gas cylinder exploded. There was no information on whether the blast was deliberate or accidental.
Russian television reported that frequent power shortages led many residents to install gas cookers. So far this year,gas explosions in houses have killed at least 23 people in Russia.
