Hong Kong - A surge in the number of visitors from China helped Hong Kong post a 9.1 per cent rise in the number of tourists travelling to the city in the first six months of this year, a media report said Tuesday. More than 14 million people visited Hong Kong during the first half of 2008, the South China Morning Post said.
Tourism Board executive director Anthony Lau said about 7.7 million tourists had come from China, an increase of 11.2 per cent year-on-year. The number of overseas visitors rose 6.6 per cent to more than 6.3 million.
The board estimated total visitor numbers would grow by 8 per cent this year to 30.4 million travellers, up from a record 28.1 million visitors last year.
