Washington - The remake of spy-spoof Get Smart captured first place in the North American box-office rankings over the weekend with 39.2 million dollars in ticket sales, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday. It was the opening weekend for Get Smart, starring Steve Carell.
The week's other major new release, The Love Guru, staring Mike Myers, was hammered by critics and opened in fourth place for the Friday-Sunday period with revenue of 14 million dollars.
