Washington - You can make the Windows Start menu your own by changing, to some degree, the way it looks and operates. Right-click the Start menu, and select Properties from the pop-up menu. Explore the options there, and click the Customise button to explore more. You can select which items appear on the Start menu, how large the menu icons are, and whether the Start menu takes on the appearance of the one in previous versions of Windows. --------

Washington - Keyboard shortcuts in Windows applications can save you time. For example, Ctrl-S saves a file, Ctrl-O opens the file chooser dialogue box, and Ctrl-W closes the current window. Ctrl-P opens the Print dialogue box. Ctrl-A selects everything. Ctrl- C copies what is selected to the clipboard, and Ctrl-V pastes what's in the clipboard to the current location. Ctrl-N starts a new document in most applications. Consult the Help menu of individual applications to see which other keyboard shortcuts are supported.

Washington - Does junk mail pile into your in-box every day, making your task of sorting through e-mail laborious? If so, stop in at the Opt-Out website, at http://optout.cdt.org. Opt-out tells you how to get your name off of mailing lists and how to avoid becoming a target of Internet advertisers. You can also turn yourself into an activist by signing up for one of their anti-spam political campaigns.

--------

Washington - If you are like most internet users, you probably use a search engine such as Google (http://www.google.com) on a daily basis. After you enter a search term, instead of clicking the Search button, just press the Enter key on your keyboard. Doing so automatically activates the Search function, and pressing Enter will save you time.

--------

Washington - If you are interested in people - demographic information, e-mail addresses, genealogies, vital records, population statistics, and more - then PeopleSpot (http://www.peoplespot.com) is the place for you. This website contains links to hundreds of people- related informational sites from government and other collection agencies. Almost anything that's public knowledge about people should be represented on this website.
