Washington - Senators Barack Obama and John McCain sought to claim the high ground Friday by accusing each other of stamping out debates in the run-up to the US presidential elections in November. Both campaigns issued statements complaining that the other side had rejected offers for an unprecedented series of joint townhall meetings and traditional debates between the two candidates. McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, had originally pushed for 10 townhall meetings between June and August, an offer widely seen as an effort to counter Democrat Obama's likely advantage in raising campaign funds. McCain's campaign repeated the offer Friday, promising to keep a spot open in the candidates schedule every Thursday until August, and hoping Obama would "reconsider his position and agree to join Senator McCain as early as next week." Obama's camp has countered with an offer of two townhall meetings between now and November to go along with the three presidential debates traditionally held after the parties' nominating conventions in August and September. "Its disappointing that Senator McCain and his campaign decided to decline this proposal," said campaign manager David Plouffe. "Apparently they would rather contrive a political issue than foster a genuine discussion about the future of our country." The debate over debates continues.

townhalls stacked with friends.

What this article neglects to mention is that the townhalls McCain proposed where set up by his committees, and not completely neutral. Just last week FOX news even had to say that the townhall that McCain was deriding Obama for not attending was filled with Republican invitees (and not with independents and democrats - as the McCain camp said). McCain's own camp confesses that townhalls are his "comfort zone"-- and I suspect that debates are not. Who is actually talking straight on this one? I see no reason why one candidate should completely bow to the other ones choice. A mix of townhalls and debates sounds like a good idea.

McCain can't give a speech

McCain folks are content to cry.
Obama draws the crowds.
Old Sgt.Greenscreen is too bullheaded, and if he can't compromise, he'll wind up stammering in front of those same 25 people, who keep asking those same stupid questions.
Obama brings the crowds, and the interest.
McCain can't even give a simple speech.
And he's too bullheaded to even put forth an effort to improve.
I pity the economist who tries to teach the slow learner (finished near last at the naval academy) on a subject that he has no interest in (economics don't mean much when your wife inherits a hundred million dollars).

This article seems to have been written by someone in the Obama camp. There is a distinct bias against McCain.
Too bad there are no more ethics in reporting.

Typical empty suit Obama... challenged to 10, offeres 2, then deflects with a complain about the offer of 2 was rejected. Same as the primaries, deflect and avoid scrutiny as long as possble so when it all falls apart its too late to correct. Obama truly has no clothes.

McCain offers 10 town halls, assuming debates also will take place as they are the custom. Obama counter-offers with 2 town halls and the 3 debates.
Where does the Obama staff have the right to claim the "high ground"? Pathetic.

The bias of this article is outrageous. It's interesting that David Plouffe considers scripted debates negotiated by both politically interested sides more 'genuine' discussions than town halls where voters ask the questions.

McCain proposes 10 face to face debates and Hussein Obama proposes only 2, but it's McCain that's the bad guy.... does that sound about right?

...."Its disappointing that Senator McCain and his campaign decided to decline this proposal," said campaign manager David Plouffe. "Apparently they would rather contrive a political issue than foster a genuine discussion about the future of our country."....
LOL! That is rich! Without a teleprompter, Obama makes George Bush seem articulate. His guy is an empty suit, Trojan horse. Beware of who is pulling his strings and what they have planned for the USA.
McCain is certainly not my choice of candidate, but he is far less dangerous than the Obama.
Remember, all we ever get to vote 'for' is the lesser evil. Neither party has the country's best interests at heart.

I would only hope that the folks who write stories at The Earth Times could come to some agreement as to the proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation before they try to "inform" readers about any topic.

What's the junior senator afraid of

McCain wants to start with 10 townhall meetings between June and August. Obama is a coward and only wants 2 townhall meetings between June and November. What's the junior senator afraid of this time?

Obama The Political Charlatan.
By:

Political charlatan, Barrack Obama, has convinced his robotic followers that Obama can meet with Ahmejinedad without precondition; and, that the Iranian Islamofacist will experience a now infamous Obama epiphany and conversion to righteousness; and, "There Will Be Peace In Our Time". This is the very same Neville Obama who, because he frequently babbles incoherently when attempting to speak without a prepared text, is terrified of being exposed by meeting John McCain in a simple Town-Hall Forum. God help us if the majority of Americans are beguiled by this novice circus comic, who has never before performed under the "Big Tent"; and, the peddling of his "Magic Elixir " that Obama has claimed will "Heal The Planet". I have never seen such a cynical and pessimistic candidate!
His "bitter" attitude -- along with his constant nagging, complaining and whining -- is getting old...fast.
I guess this is typical of hyper-liberal extremists with a far left social agenda.
