Berlin - A mother, 23, who advertised her baby on eBay for 1 euro as a joke will be reunited Saturday with her baby after a week of psychological tests by German officials who said it was not funny. An alert internet user noticed the online sale offer for the infant, "near new, rather loud, portable using pram or sash."
Child welfare authorities in Mindelheim, southern Germany seized the boy, 8 months, and put him in hospital for a week-long check-up.
Officials said the mother and her partner, 23, had insisted on sleeping in the ward all week next to the baby, who was healthy and normal for his age. A psychologist said the couple had parenting potential. Social workers are to teach them the right way to parent.
Germany's mass circulation Bild quoted the mother saying she wished the joke had never entered her head.
