NEW YORK, Jan. 16 Labrador retrievers are the most popular dog breed in the United States for the 16th year in a row.The Yorkshire terrier, however, is gaining ground, The New York Times reported.The American Kennel Club said the Yorkshire terrier overtook golden retrievers and German shepherds for the first time this year.A spokeswoman for the club said toy-dog breeds, which include Yorkshire terriers, have risen from 12 percent of the registry in the 1970s to about 23 percent today.Copyright 2007 by UPI
