London - British supermodel Naomi Campbell was Thursday charged with assaulting two police officers at London's Heathrow airport following a row over lost luggage, the Crown Prosecution Service said. Campbell, 37, who was removed from a British Airways (BA) flight bound for Los Angeles following the row last month, will have to appear in court on June 20.
Her lawyer, Simon Nicholls said she was "bitterly disappointed" to learn that she would prosecuted. "She respects that decision and she hopes this matter is dealt with expeditiously."
Campbell was accused of six offences after she answered bail at Heathrow police station over the incident, which occurred on a BA flight due to leave for Los Angeles from Heathrow's new Terminal 5 on April 3.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Campbell has been charged with three counts of assaulting a police constable, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine of up to 5,000 pounds (10,000 dollars).
She also faces one count of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, which is punishable by a fine of up to 2,500 pounds, and two counts of using threatening, abusive words or behaviour towards cabin crew, which comes with a maximum penalty of 1,000 pounds.
Campbell, dressed in a dark pinstriped suit and sunglasses, made no comment to the waiting media as she emerged from the police station at Heathrow.
