Athens - Greek judiciary workers on Thursday postponed the trial of three French protestors accused of disrupting the lighting ceremony for the Beijing Olympics until September. The trial was postponed due to a strike by judiciary workers in Greece.
At the flame lighting ceremony on March 24, three members of the Paris-based group Reporters Without Borders ran onto the field of the stadium at Ancient Olympia with black flags and banners during the speech of the President of the Beijing Olympic Committee, Liu Qi.
One of the men, carrying a black banner with five interlocking handcuffs, depicting the Olympic crest of rings, was quickly led away and detained by police before he had the chance to unravel it before the eyes of millions of televised viewers.
The other individuals were also arrested, including the organization's general secretary Robert Menard, and charged with disturbing the peace and offending a national symbol.
Their action started a string of high-profile protests along the international leg of the Olympic torch relay.
