LONDON, Jan. 16 A national survey finds British libraries spent only 10 percent of their budgets on books last year.As libraries turn away from books, the number of users is actually growing, The Daily Mail reported. But not everyone is happy.What your local library is becoming is an Internet cafe, with fewer and fewer books attached, one critic told the newspaper. The survey found libraries spent more than 1 billion pounds ($1.96 billion) last year, but only 100 million pounds ($196.12 million) went for books. The total number of books in libraries has dropped 40 percent since the 1980s and is about to slide below 100 million, while there are now a total of 40,000 computer terminals in libraries.Both the number of books borrowed and the number of books purchased by libraries fell in 2006 from 2005.Copyright 2007 by UPI
