Washington - Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. "I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation," Klaus said. "So I'm ready to do it." Klaus was speaking a the National Press Building in Washington to present his new book, Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?, before meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney Wednesday. "My answer is it is our freedom and, I might add, and our prosperity," he said. Gore a former US vice president who has become a leading international voice in the cause against global warming, was co-winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Gore's effort was highlighted by his Oscar winning documentary film An Inconvienent Truth. Klaus, an economist, said he opposed the "climate alarmism" perpetuated by environmentalism trying to impose their ideals, comparing it to the decades of communist rule he experienced growing up in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia. "Like their (communist) predecessors, they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality," he said. "In the past, it was in the name of the Marxists or of the proletariat - this time, in the name of the planet," he added. Klaus said a free market should be used to address environmental concerns and said he oppposed as unrealistic regulations or greenhouse gas capping systems designed to reduce the impact of climate change. "It could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda," he said. Klaus alleged that the global warming was being championed by scientists and other environmentalists whose careers and funding requires selling the public on global warming. "It is in the hands of climatologists and other related scientists who are highly motivated to look in one direction only," Klaus said.

Hello everyone. I find it rather easy to portray a businessman. Being bland, rather cruel and incompetent comes naturally to me. Help me! It has to find sites on the: Bathroom led mirrors. I found only this - illinois debt relief. Discount codes, voucher codes and promotional codes to save you money. If your bathroom is painted white, you can install a mirror that has silver, gold or black frames. Thanks for the help , Jalene from Sweden.

What I only found out recently is that global warming is only conclusive if you pick the timing selectively and by chance the standard used by most western studies fits global warming. That used by the Estern bloc universities is much longer and does not fit the theories of AGW at all well.
Only a tiny fraction of the cash available to AGW believers is available to those wishing to study alternative ones such as the theory that heavy pollution actually causes cooling more than warming and the increase in temperature is actually caused by greener industry. This bolstering of AGW is against normal science of creating a theory and then picking holes in it.

It is humorous to see liberals wholeheartedly accept Global Warming and Conservatives absolutely deny Global Warming based on party lines. Global Warming is a Theory/Hypothesis with some evidence but it is not proven or disproven yet. This is why scientists are debating this - although most are accepting it as the explanation for the limited data. As we know from history, theories are modified and changed as more data becomes available. Generally, abnormal data raises a red flag and that means something is not right. This is the situation we face with this climate change issue. However, this may be a transient phenomenon, part of a cyclical phenomenon, or maybe just the normal course of events. We will be certain in just a few thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) of years.
In the mean time it makes sense to be clean. Look at factory areas in the third world where there are no emission standards. They are filthy.
It also makes sense not to make industry too expensive to stay in business.
A balance between the two would work out the best.

if there is this much argument and "hysteria" about GW, there might be some iota of truth in it. then again, it could just be that with our new technologies, we are able to see changes in the earth that we weren't able to see before, and climate change is just a natural thing.

How in the world do you debate a pathological liar? The liar has the full use of his/her imagination to come up with whopping big lies, they just take a simple truth like the earth has warmed by .00002% in the last 20 years and wrap an enormous lie around it like humans are responsible and you have the makings of great debate fodder. Where as, the truth simply cannot be embellished in any way or it becomes a lie. Gore can no more tell the complete truth than Bill and Hillary Clinton or Obama. It simply is not who they are and to debate them is ridicules. So President Klaus, I know what you say is true, just don’t try to come between a Liberal and his or her cash cow. They are pathological lying narcissists and you will not win even if you win the debate. Please don’t give up on the rest of us who understand and appreciate your effort to stop the cry of “ The sky is falling”.

Global Warming, SHS Hysteria, all the same thing
By:
Jason ,
Sat, 31 May 2008 20:00:04 GMT
|
|
The Global Warming fear-mongering as a way to consolidate control and further tighten the yoke was more than likely an outgrowth of the SHS ("second-hand-smoke") hysteria that came before it.
When that one when it proved so successful in scaring people into tighter regulations and controls to the point of thinking outdoor smoke-bans "normal" and relinquishing the concept of private property rights, turning them into “public” “rights”, the initial social experiment in how to further the growth of a world-wide government was born.
Once you get people moving in that direction and throwing a blind eye out of prejudice and fear, in that case pharmaceutical companies paying the tab for correlation “studies” that were also disputable and lacked probability and fell into low confidence levels - and "studies" being dubious in itself since most were based on what amounted to "opinion polls" based on foggy memories conjured by prejudice - you now end up with the modus-operandi for how the Nu Marxism is to be initiated – packaged and sold – through fear, prejudice and eventual capitulation by the populations being brought under control.
There’s more to a lot of these “debates” like the one on Global Warming idea than meets the eye – and the more sinister undertones are overlooked on purpose by the “news” media these days who of course prospers from the advertising revenues – such as all the pharmaceutical/drug ads their SHS mongering produced – this one to create profit in “green” advertising and public posturing all companies will now need to pay for – in order to comply with the Nu Agenda – make themselves look politically correct enough.
It’s so ironic that a major executive of the Sierra Club environmental group fore-sworn to the good of the environment, and by association for the “good of ‘the people’” – that this same person ended up privately creating the public relations campaign to sell WalMart as a “green” and “responsible” corporation – which lead to WalMart forcing under-paid employees to “volunteer” for free on their own time at the drop of a hat anytime the company needed a sudden Public Relations boost – while visibly forcing out all union organizing attempts, including shutting down entire stores if a union got too close to evolving.
Walmart went on to let employee rest-areas turn into dismal, dreary spots with burned out light bulbs, filthy conditions, and even went so far as to dictate to employees not to drink, smoke or eat anything “unhealthy” outside company time – intimidations – but “good” for “the people” – and this perpetuated by the “genius” of a clever Sierra Club executive who literally earned several million dollars for his “good” actions.
The Global Warming “scare” is just more of the same – along the same lines as previously successful campaigns, to replace the nature of private rights with those of public take-over and for the “good of the people”.
Communist countries were always doing something “good” “for the people”.
Al Gore just reeks of more of the same mindedness – especially when some scientists in disagreement with the Global Warming idea have not only been shut out of by the “news” media entire, but some even received death threats as has been reported in Europe.

It is great to see a leader of a country stand up and say that the data is just not there to agree with Al Gore's cronies. Of course it makes sense to take good care of the Earth but why do some people blame everything on people? In Freiman's book Current Events, Conservative Outcomes he states the next great climatic event to threaten our species is that of a serious cooling cycle. The scientist don't agree on weather global warming is man made or in some cases even real? I say follow the money trail. Who is making money off the global warming alarm? Doesn't Al Gore own a company that sells carbon credits? Don't the scientist get paid by gloabal warming funding? Hmmmmmmm

Well said Mr. Klaus. Another point is that these kind of international agreement can lessen the sovereigns power of the individual states.
Of course, we as sovereign citizens can say "Us Washingtonians do not want anything to do with that agreement". I believe, to make it valid on the state level it would have to be ratified by the citizens of the said state...since we are a sovereign entity. Furthermore, we should not be having dope heads like Gore dictating supposed policy for the United States. Mr Klaus is right, this reeks of socialism, and those that want to consolidate power.

Honestly Global Warming deniers make me think the world isn't worth saving sometimes. What freedoms will be taken away? How is making cars and trucks more efficient harmful to the econemy that has been put on pins and needles because of the raising gas prices. In what way is becoming energy independent and tapping into the 3,000,000,000,000 global energy market as more than just a consumer but a producer in any way detrimental to our gdp? Right now energy costs represent nearly twenty percent of our gpd. That' a rediculous sum that is being poured overseas by channeling our efforts and dollars into good clean domestic prodcution we can do more than just reduce our costs we can create a better healthier energy infrastructure and leave ourselves with an econemy that is far stronger as it no longer sits atop the vascilating oil commodities market.

It's ironic it takes someone who lived in a former Soviet-controlled area, Eastern Europe, to understand free markets and freedom so well. Anti-growth environmentalism favors huge growth in goverment and "global warming" allows them to do so. If only our politicians, especially the Republicans had the smarts and nerve to go against the trend. Dick Cheney will no longer be vice president in 2009 and even John McCain is big on cap and trade policies that will hurt America, not to mention what HO-BAMA would bring us.

"This is an absolutely classic example of someone who can’t or refuses to look more than 5 minutes into the future.Yeah man we can get all the resources we need right here in the good old USA but they are FINITE meaning they WILL NOT last forever. So yes we can go and dig up our wildlands, mine the national parks, and dig up all of Alaska, but what happens when we use all of those resources too."
Right. You clearly don't realize that the sheer amount of oil under American soil could sustain this country for much, much longer than the 5 minutes you quote. Other energy sources must be discovered, but this takes TIME- time that should be spent using the resources this country has rather than relying on Middle Eastern interests.
Unless you enjoy being forced to poke our noses into the Middle East's business simply to get a product we already have but are unwilling to use because people like you don't understand what actually goes into drilling for oil. This actually requires foresight, and should have been implemented years ago.
Nuclear power, wind power- it's the left who opposes these proven sources of power because of one reason or another, the foremost being complete ignorance. Which you display quite well.
"Oh and people were starving before GW became and issue, my god man do you honestly think that research into climate change is the reason for world hunger"
You have the reading comprehension of a fourth grader. The research itself isn't starving people, "bud", it's the sheer amount of money that would be better spent on REAL problems instead of "global warming". But I don't expect you to actually get that- you're too busy thinking "5 minutes into the future", when your time would be better spent understanding facts in the here and now.

One more statistic Andy: The total CO2 attributed to human activity in one year, about 8 billion tons, represents only 1 millionth of the total mass of Earth's atmosphere! One part per million at today's rate, a few parts per BILLION a hundred years ago. Those minuscule amounts will not generate nor sustain a centuries-long global climate change! They're just too SMALL! We just don't make THAT much CO2 compared to how BIG the Earth's atmosphere is.

A Response of Sorts

BRAIN POWER ,

And this is where you all miss the point
I DON’T BELIEVE IN HUMAN INDUCED WARMING
I do believe that companies should be held accountable for what they spew into the air. I believe there are better methods to gas guzzling engines and I didn’t say biofuels cause that is not going to work either. All I am saying is that the Argument of human induced warming has led people to complacency. Because all you idiots say you don’t believe in human induced warming and your using it as an excuse to do what you want, when you want, waste when you wanna waste, whenever you please.
Lets look at some of the comments made toward my post
Tank: Most of the things you call "good policy" are in fact horrible policy based upon emotion and muddy thinking. As long as you treat "environmentalism" as a religion, you won't come up with workable ideas, just "feel good" stuff that in many cases will make things worse with unintended consequences because you don't think things through.
So making sure companies can’t release whatever they want into the air is horrible policy based on emotion. And trying to move away from foreign oil and make our cars more fuel efficient, that is a bad idea right? You are such a dolt is boggles my mind. Tell me, what will YOU do when gas costs $10 a gallon (take into account inflation)? Yeah it might not be in your lifetime but what will we do when this country can’t afford to get to work. The correct answer is find a new way to get around without using tons of gas…many people in America are already unable to drive to work and we are only at $4. What will you do when our cities have the same pollution levels as bejing? Or Greater? Would you think it would be a good idea to limit what these companies spew out (and I’m not talking about co2 here) if you had to wear a mask in the streets. Or would that be too much govt control for you? Hey let the free market reign right???
And you all say “Gore isn’t a scientist so what does he know”. Well neither is Klaus my friends. Personally I think they are both complete idiots.
MRM: Wow Brain Power (& to a lesser extent Solange) seems you really missed the point of his speach. I did not so much hear Klaus downing GOOD POLICY. His point was comparing the movement to Marxism.... which (at it's core) seems to be what it is. And he should know. Unlike you or I who have only looked at Marxism from the outside, he has seen it from the inside out. I laugh when I hear school kids and teens ask "what is wrong with Marxism/Communism?" On the surface, it seems just like "one big happy family" where the government takes care of us all. And the empty shelves and food rationing of the former Soviet Union were things that those who lived under Marxist rule just "loved" waking up to everyday.
"To each according to his need; From each according to his ability" Doesn't it just sound nice and "fair".
I am about protecting the envoriment. I am about encouraging industry to develop alternatives. But the solution is not government mandates. Get the government out of the way. The policies and government have never produced anything, they just pile on more restrictions to our lives.
So creating more "rules" about how to live our lives is not the solution. Get off the backs of those who could really get it done. Is there a problem, Maybe, but It aint going to be the government that solves the "problem".
MRM, I like the points you made but I just wanna mention a couple things. I understand Klaus’ arguments but quite frankly I was not addressing what HE said but more about the issue of human induced warming. I completely agree with your “one big happy family” notion. Its ignorant to think that the govt cant take care of us and it will all work out but it is EQUALLY IGNORANT to think that companies will just regulate themselves and even more ignorant to think that we could all just live in harmony without government. There is a happy medium to be had here but in terms of companies regulating themselves, they have absolutely no incentive to do so. This is why the govt. outlawed monopolies because one company controlling everything couldn’t be trusted to have competitive prices or be fair in their practices. Companies will lose money in the short term by doing this until it becomes common place across the industry and their stock holders and leadership will do everything they can to prevent those loses from happening. You really think these companies would regulate themselves without state or federal intervention. The only way I could see these companies doing this is through public outcry…and maybe our cities getting degraded to the point of them being bejing-like is just the thing to get the people to say “that’s enough”. Companies regulating themselves, sounds good in theory, but just wont work (sound familiar, just like Marxism, might sound good in theory but wont work)
Ozark Sunshine: Brainless Power and others who buy the bull - A new Report that has been released by the University of Oregon and over 32,000 of scientists, over 9000 with Phds, signing it saying there is no such thing as man made global warming. Unlike the UNs 660 bought and paid for scientists and Al Bores wanting to line his pockets with carbon offset money from you, these are scientists who are standing up and being counted against this fraud. It's all about money so follow the paper trail. The environmentalists want to shove their moneymaking agenda down others throat while most don't even follow their own suggestions. As an engineer and scientist I have studied this subject very factually and carefully, not using articles written by journalists with an agenda, but real science papers and conclude it is a farce just like your liberal left movements. Loo at solar flares/activities, volcanic activities, plates shifting beneath the earth releasing gases. How about the fact that CO2 increases AFTER temperatures rise some? How about the fact that Greenland was once actually green? You talk facts and leave out the emotion and maybe you can see clearer.
Well this response has absolutely NOTHING to do with what I was saying cause I don’t believe in human induced warming anyway. I would expect and engineer and scientist to be able to read a bit more carefully. How about the fact that the continents used to all be smashed together? Exactly…your points have nothing to do with anything…great!
Clarity: BRAIN POWER writes: BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE REPORTED SOLUTION TO GLOBAL WARMING IS SIMPLY GOOD POLICY ANYWAY.
Right. I mean, EA85 ethanol only starves the world's poor and reduces fuel efficiency! It's GREAT policy!
In fact, the US not actually using it's own natural resources because of environmental wackjobs trying to protect polar bears is PERFECT policy! Let's face it, forcing US citizens to involve themselves in the politics of the Middle East simply because drilling in Alaska or other parts of the country might me detrimental to the breeding habits of migratory birds is the very definition of good policy.
At this point, I'd like to pause and say that when someone uses an argument such as Mr. Brain Power is doing, it only points to the obvious: wasting billions on proving the farce of global warming is starving people, creating more government control and raising the cost of everything we buy- from cars to bananas- all in the name of protecting people from themselves.
Get a clue.
I don’t think ethanol is the answer but I like the fact that we took the initiative to research the subject and determine that it wasn’t viable. This is an absolutely classic example of someone who can’t or refuses to look more than 5 minutes into the future. Yeah man we can get all the resources we need right here in the good old USA but they are FINITE meaning they WILL NOT last forever. So yes we can go and dig up our wildlands, mine the national parks, and dig up all of Alaska, but what happens when we use all of those resources too. The answer of course will be to find other means to power or run our country. But this burden will be on our children’s children, not us. So yes we can keep doing what were doing and I guess it boils down to weather or not you care about preserving the natural integrity of our country. The point is we WILL be in the same boat at some point if we follow your “ideas” and we will have destroyed the natural world around us in the process (so basically your saying lets destroy the natural world around us just to end up in the same place we started…sounds great!!!)….just like we couldn’t possibly predict what co2 could do to climate we couldn’t possibly understand the effects of total deforestation and exploitation of this planet. So actually, you get a clue there bud. Oh and people were starving before GW became and issue, my god man do you honestly think that research into climate change is the reason for world hunger….oh my god…unreal!

The Climate Change Church has a very simple formula and Klaus has hit the nail on the head, it is all about fundraising, grant money. This money is raised through fear mongering, scare tactics and stealth taxes (especially in the UK). The money never goes towards anything beneficial to the environment such as planting trees or planting habitats, only to create new bureaucratic government institutions to tax and spend our money while restricting our freedoms and create more hot air from the mouths of the liberal elites who want to keep us out of our cars and off planes so they have more room in their ski resorts and beach villas. Thank you Mr Klaus for speaking for the people!

CO2 and Other Pollutants????

If increased CO2 caused the earth to warm -- then why is Mars frozen? The earth has a very small amount of CO2 compared to Mars -- which is about 98%. Yet, Mars is a frozen planet. Common sense tells me that the placement of the planet within the Solar System and the amount of the Sun's rays that reaches a planet determines the amount of heat the planet receives. CO2 has nothing to do with any of it.
It is quite amusing really, that some would even begin to think that we (humans) could have any effect on our climate. I'm certain that future generations will look back on us as total idiots for believing such garbage.
I agree with Mr. Klaus -- thanks for having the guts to tell the truth. Thank you Mr. Klaus.

Truly, this needs to happen in the public sphere far more often. And the place it should start above all is the classroom. Even if a debate and/or film is made, and a wonderful one was already made a few years ago on BBC, the press will hush it as much as they can. Manage to get these messages inside the schools, and you will get a desirable ripple effect.

Environmental nut jobs would have most of us living in caves, whilst they, themselves, trumpet their holier-than-thou Global Warming/Climate Change religion and worship at the feet of their high priest, AlGore. After all, they'd have you believe, they're the only ones who care for Mother Earth. Anyone not in their camp is pronounced an anti eco-leper fit only to be segregated from them until we slobberingly surrender to their empty-headed prattling.
Green Peacers, tree huggers, environmentalist whack jobs, and whatever else they may be called are, quite simply, intolerant of any other opinion. Talk of their being no such thing as that they claim prompts such silly queries as, "Don't you care about the planet?" Fools that they are, they've no idea that the rest of us really do care...it's just not our religion.
Earth endured an explosion from a celestial body that, we're told, wiped out the dinosaurs millions of years ago. In Tunguska a meteor wiped out thousands upon thousands of trees, massive amounts of vegetation, untold wild life, and also choked portions of the surrounding air. Vesuvius erupted and spewed untold tons of debris and atmosphere-choking gases. Krakatoa's eruption was heard thousands of miles away, while sending volcanic ash into our atmosphere and other toxic gases. Mount St. Helens was notable for its spectacular pyrotechnics, poisonous gases, volcanic ash, flooding, and the effect it had on our climate.
Who knows how many other such events earth has suffered through and it's still here. Do the enviro-nuts honestly believe that your or my carbon footprint matters a whit in comparison to the violent and murderous events earth has endured?
BRAVO to President Klaus! As one who suffered at the hands GW/CC mirror image, he certainly knows whereof he speaks.
One has to wonder....just what does AlGore have to fear? Or does he know that the claims of his movie are just so many lies - as was his claim to have invented the Internet?

I don't know how Al Gore missed this one. Since NASA,s robotic rovors have been on Mars, their polar caps have been receeding. Also the moons of Jupitor have shone signs of warming ever since we sent probes there. He's missing a great opportunity to blame us for spreading global warming to the rest of the planets. I have another theory for you Al, how about blaming that thing that rises every morning in the east. According to NASA the sun is in a warmer cycle and I would believe that more than us breathing as the problem.

Honda CR-Z the 'zero' emissions vehicle

Good work Andy O! What gets me is Honda - whose cars I really like - has come out with a "zero" emissions vehicle (I believe it is the CR-Z). The vehicle only emits "clean" water vapor... Little do they know - as you said - the biggest green house gas is WATER VAPOR! So eventually these boneheaded "scientists" will claim that water vapor emitted from fossil fuels is heating up the earth and then our bonehead government will have to label water vapor a pollutant.

CO2
By:
Andy O ,
Thu, 29 May 2008 08:52:29 GMT

|
How is it the GW fanatics can't follow simple arithmetic? Take CO2 for example:
95% of the GHE(greenhouse effect)is by water vapor, and 99.999% of that is natural origin
So 5% is due to other greenhouse gases, including CO2
CO2 = 99.4% of that, but the other gases have more GHE than CO2
CO2's portion of the GHE caused by these other gases works out to about 72%
So CO2's contribution to the overall TOTAL GH effect is 3.6% (5% of 72%).
Of that about 3 percent is from human activity, other than breathing.
Meaning about 0.11 percent of the greenhouse effect is due to human releases of CO2.
IOW about 99.89 percent of the greenhouse effect has NOTHING to do with CO2 from human activity.
Factoring in the other greenhouse gases, the total human contribution to the greenhouse effect is about 0.3 percent.
IOW, about 99.7 percent of the greenhouse effect is due entirely to nature.
Including humans and other animals breathing
If ALL CO2 reductions called for by the Kyoto global warming treaty were implemented GW would be decreased 0.05 degrees by 2050
That assumes China would do it's part. Yeah, good luck on that. While costing trillions upon trillions possibly bankrupting some small countrie. And cutting nearly everyone's standard of living needlessly.
If we did TWICE as good Kyoto on CO2, it would reduce GW by 0.1 degrees. Yeah, THAT'LL "help".
Or another way to look at it, if we DOUBLED the CO2 in the air, GW would go up by a whopping one-tenth of ONE degree
Kyoto is a feel-good joke. Too bad the joke's on us.

Thankfully a voice of sanity in a surreal world. I can't believe how far this global warming farce (at least to the man made CO2 portion of it) has gone. I am waiting for somebody to tell me what the correct average global temperature should be. Instead of really doing something about the environment, like building nuclear plants as well as plasma garbage disposal plants, we have idiot politicians instead coming up with a plan to trade carbon credits. The pendulum has got to start swinging back to reason soon, hopefully before the madness that has befallen Europe takes root here in the states.

Refreshing Reality

It is so refreshing to realize there are many sane people out there that didn't just fall for this propoganda to try to extract more money from those that cannot afford it, a fresh voice, that can state the truth because he is not going to be blacklisted in this country for disagreeing with this bogus panic bs.
I am constantly dumbfounded by how easy it is to convince the sheep to follow whatever agenda for more control is thrown out there! It absolutely worries me that there are so many that cannot see where this is leading us!
And what really ticks me off is the fact that the koolaid crowd doesn't realize that just because we don't subscribe to the Gw crap we don't care about the environment! That is such a false statement. We are just capable of researching beyond the hype crap and aren't receptive to following the crowd but thinking on our own!
I think this man is extremely intelligent and brave for standing his ground on this issue. I believe he is an example for those of us that can see beyond the hollywood hype to stand up against this bs. We need to do what we can to be heard before we allow this country to go completely communist!
I will say kudos to all of those in this forum that can actually think for themselves because I have often felt alone in not believing this bs.
P.S. I remember when I was graduating in 1979 being terrified that we were heading into the next ice age according to the scientists! It never transpired! The ice caps, etc... are thicker than ever - actual scientific proof for those doubters. It is almost June in Ohio and I am still using my woodburner to heat my house! Where the heck is the warming? It certainly isn't here, record cold tonight!
Why would anyone listen to someone that is just as the weatherman on tv, tomorrow, possible showers, sunshine, severe thunderstorms, snow, ice. They have all the basis covered! No one can predict the weather with accurate results because it changes constantly with the sun, etc.... Wake up koolaid crowd!

The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the premise that global warming is happening, caused predominantly by humans, and a major threat to us.
Klaus is clearly an ignorant fool, who had he lived in a different era would have been among those denouncing Galileo for saying that Earth is not the center of the universe. Either that, or as an old man who'll be long dead when the truly dangerous effects of global warming hit us, he just doesn't care and wants to help his big-polluting cronies rake in the cash now.

Strange how you espouse unassailable "facts" in your post, but then you go on to avoid listing A SINGLE FACT. You list the word "statistics" but don't list a single statistic or source any evidence at all. That's okay...this is typical behavior coming from AGW alarmists, who know only what the propagandists have pumped their brains with. Viva la Al Gore-acle!
Apparently, the cold, record-breaking winter we just had is something you missed, and the fact that the mean global temperature dropped 0.7 d C in one year missed you too (that is...if one even believes the baseline by which the 1998 "high" was also based). Talk about being blind (and lacking in tactile sensations).

@Solange
You site a lot of popular sources to "prove" that GL is a fact. Science is not a matter of "consensus". If consensus made things true, the world would still be flat.
@"BRAIN POWER" (who are you kidding?)
Most of the things you call "good policy" are in fact horrible policy based upon emotion and muddy thinking. As long as you treat "environmentalism" as a religion, you won't come up with workable ideas, just "feel good" stuff that in many cases will make things worse with unintended consequences because you don't think things through.
For instance, wasn't it your crowd that bullied us into installing catalytic converters on our cars? And now the sodium trioxide emitted by those devices is being blamed for making the ocean more acid (if indeed that is true). Who will you blame for this one?

The Point Is

Wow Brain Power (& to a lesser extent Solange) seems you really missed the point of his speach. I did not so much hear Klaus downing GOOD POLICY. His point was comparing the movement to Marxism .... which (at it's core) seems to be what it is.

Brainless Power and others who buy the bull - A new Report that has been released by the University of Oregon and over 32,000 of scientists, over 9000 with Phds, signing it saying there is no such thing as man made global warming.

I was pleased with the radio show and the comments that the Czech President Klaus has made.
I totally agree that this is an political movement and also MAYBE financial. I've beleived this since the advent of the catalytic converter and 3,000 mile oil changes.
I truely beleive that conservatism has a place in this world but at what expense.
I've worked in the oil industry for over 25 years. The enviromental protections that are in place today are good but they slow down the process in obtaining oil, if not totally stop it.

Of course the planet is warming up. What do you think ended the Ice Age? And it will cool down again. What do you think started the Ice Age? If we have such an impact on the climate, why can't we stop an earthquake, hurricane or tornado. We can't even predict them, let alone prevent them. President Klaus definitely hit the hammer on the nail with his comments about Global Warming. Global warming is based on a very weak premise, and evidence has shown the the temperatures during the middle ages were warmer than they are now, which was long before fossil fuels were used. In addition 2007 was one of the coldest (globally) years on record which also detracts from Al's argument. Finally, we must also remember that many climate models previously did not take into account for wind patterns, which has a strong correlation to changes in temperature than global warming.

There's a movie about a man in flying armour, too - just because it's put on a screen doesn't make it true. Neither does the unsupported word of a hack politician.
Is the planet warming. Yes. It's been doing so for a few centuries now, starting well before the Industrial Revolution, following the advent of the 13th century's Little Ice Age, which followed the Medieval Warm Period (estimated to be warmer than our current time).
Man-made global warming (or climate change or whatever the term du jour is) is a fraud. None of the computer models 'proving' global warming can approximate our current climate using historical data, yet we're told that they are accurate predictors of future conditions. All of the data presented as 'proving' global warming has been shown to be inaccurate, lacking, or falsified.
The global warming proponents are watermelons - green on the outside and red on the inside - demanding a degree of submission and subservience only dreamed of by Marxist totalitarians. The most amazing thing about this whole charade is the blind willingness of so many to submit to questionable authority.

Once Global Cooling becomes a reality, the power elite, the media elite, the elite universities pushing Global Warming, and all the legislators and judges stripping us of rights and impossing endless controls will lose credibility and go down as small minded, totalitarian like priests of evil. Soon, very, very soon, people will turn on the above and there will be nothing any of the above will be able to do to avoid their total and complete loss of power and control.

Let's poop where we sleep! Yeah pollution! Remember, at one time people thought the world was flat; it was the most educated thinkers who believed it to be round. Now look at the statistics of the education of those agreeing with global warming.
No worries though, all of you are in the minority. But, alas; even you shall benefit from the progressive environmentalism sweeping the earth. Ha Ha!

Funny that Almost all supposed solutions to global warming in some way shape or form would lead countries to be restricted, taxed, and eventually governed by some elite orgination of un elected leaders. What better way to do it than in the name of the planet and the future generations of children. This is the mother of all socialist take overs and the mindless masses go along with it because they still think the 5 oclock news is based on fact not bias propaganda. People need to realize that the first step to becoming socialist is to make you rely on the government a good start is a carbon cap/tax which will cause massive job loss and poverty. Then before you know it your in the bread line waiting for a government hand out, and its all down hill from there.

Al Gore is not a scientist but a politician. He has no background in climatology or any related scientific field of study yet is the figurehead of the man made global warming movement. He will never debate anyone on global warming even another politician because he has everything to lose by doing so. The reason for his reluctance is because his climate positions have little basis in fact and ARE NOT supported by the "vast majority" of the scientific community. Only an ill informed fool would quote media outlets like CNN or the NY Times as credible sources of information on this topic
Gore as well as many others are making a large fortune with this man made global warming theory which leads to another point. You only need to follow the money to understand these people's motivation in promoting it. They will sacrifice our financial well being by scaring the global community into taking positions that are dangerous to the poor and detrimental to the rest of us. Just look at the Ethanol content mess these fools have promoted where there are now food shortages and price spikes which could result in starving large numbers of people and cause chaos.
For anyone who is really following the global temperature data it ironically looks as though the warming trend stopped about 10 years ago and could be swinging towards cooling. How will Gore spin this one?

NY Times: Global Warming Claims Bogus
Tuesday, January 1, 2008 4:38 PM
By: Newsmax Staff
Critics are calling it clear evidence that the climate of opinion on alleged global warming is shifting in favor of skeptics, especially since it comes from the New York Times, until now a fervent acolyte of climate change guru Al Gore and his doctrine of ongoing and disastrous climate change.
In his Times column for the first day of the new year, "In 2008, a 100 Percent Chance of Alarm," columnist John Tierney took a close look at the global warming debate and found that the climate change scenario being peddled by Mr. Gore and his legion of followers is anything but the settled scientific fact they claim, with the sole doubters being the equivalent of those who believe the earth is flat. Tierney, critics say, has nailed the climate alarmists and exposed their propaganda!
Tierney begins his myth shattering column by telling his readers: "I’d like to wish you a happy New Year, but I’m afraid I have a different sort of prediction. You’re in for very bad weather. In 2008, your television will bring you image after frightening image of natural havoc linked to global warming. You will be told that such bizarre weather must be a sign of dangerous climate change — and that these images are a mere preview of what’s in store unless we act quickly to cool the planet."
Tierney cautions that he cannot be more specific. "I don’t know if disaster will come by flood or drought, hurricane or blizzard, fire or ice. Nor do I have any idea how much the planet will warm this year or what that means for your local forecast. Long-term climate models cannot explain short-term weather."
Noting that "there’s bound to be some weird weather somewhere, and we will react like the sailors in the Book of Jonah. When a storm hit their ship, they didn’t ascribe it to a seasonal weather pattern. They quickly identified the cause (Jonah’s sinfulness) and agreed to an appropriate policy response (throw Jonah overboard)."
Those interpreting the weather nowadays, Tierney explains; "are what social scientists call availability entrepreneurs: the activists, journalists and publicity-savvy scientists who selectively monitor the globe looking for newsworthy evidence of a new form of sinfulness -- burning fossil fuels."
Tierney recalls that last year British meteorologists made headlines predicting that the buildup of greenhouse gases would help make 2007 the hottest year on record. At year’s end, however, he writes that "even though the British scientists reported the global temperature average was not a new record — it was actually lower than any year since 2001 — the BBC confidently proclaimed, '2007 Data Confirms Warming Trend.'
"When the Arctic sea ice last year hit the lowest level ever recorded by satellites, it was big news and heralded as a sign that the whole planet was warming. When the Antarctic sea ice last year reached the highest level ever recorded by satellites, it was pretty much ignored. A large part of Antarctica has been cooling recently, but most coverage of that continent has focused on one small part that has warmed."
He cites claims by Global warming theory promoters that 2005's Hurricane Katrina, was supposed to be "a harbinger of the stormier world predicted by some climate modelers." To the contrary, he recalls "when the next two hurricane seasons were fairly calm — by some measures, last season in the Northern Hemisphere was the calmest in three decades — the availability entrepreneurs changed the subject. Droughts in California and Australia became the new harbingers of climate change (never mind that a warmer planet is projected to have more, not less, precipitation over all)."
Slow warming, he explains "doesn’t make for memorable images on television or in people’s minds, so activists, journalists and scientists have looked to hurricanes, wild fires and starving polar bears instead. They have used these images to start an “availability cascade,” a term coined by Timur Kuran, a professor of economics and law at the University of Southern California.
The "availability cascade," Tierney writes, "is a self-perpetuating process: the more attention a danger gets, the more worried people become, leading to more news coverage and more fear. Once the images of Sept. 11 made terrorism seem a major threat, the press and the police lavished attention on potential new attacks and supposed “Plots”. After Three Mile Island and 'The China Syndrome,' minor malfunctions at nuclear power plants suddenly became newsworthy."
Once such a cascade is under way, he adds "it becomes tough to sort out risks because experts become reluctant to dispute the popular wisdom, and are ignored if they do. Now that the melting Arctic has become the symbol of global warming, there’s not much interest in hearing other explanations of why the ice is melting — or why the globe’s other pole isn’t melting, too."
While Global warming has an impact on both polar regions, he explains, "It’s also strongly influenced by regional weather patterns and ocean currents." He cites two studies by NASA and university scientists last year that he reports "concluded that much of the recent melting of Arctic sea ice was related to a cyclical change in ocean currents and winds, but those studies got relatively little attention — and were certainly no match for the images of struggling polar bears so popular with availability entrepreneurs."
Tierney writes that Roger A. Pielke Jr., a professor of environmental studies at the University of Colorado, "recently noted the very different reception received last year by two conflicting papers on the link between hurricanes and global warming. He counted 79 news articles about a paper in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, and only 3 news articles about one in a far more prestigious journal, Nature.
"Guess which paper jibed with the theory — and image of Katrina — presented by Al Gore’s 'Inconvenient Truth'?"
The answer: "the paper in the more obscure journal, which suggested that global warming, is creating more hurricanes. The paper in Nature concluded that global warming has a minimal effect on hurricanes. It was published in December — by coincidence, the same week that Mr. Gore received his Nobel Peace Prize.
Tierney recalls that in his speech accepting the Peace Prize, Gore "didn’t dwell on the complexities of the hurricane debate." Nor, did he mention how calm the hurricane season had been in his roundup of the 2007 weather. Instead, Tierney notes, "he alluded somewhat mysteriously to 'stronger storms in the Atlantic and Pacific,' and focused on other kinds of disasters, like 'massive droughts' and 'massive flooding.'
“In the last few months," Mr. Gore said, 'it has been harder and harder to misinterpret the signs that our world is spinning out of kilter.' But he was being too modest," Tierney says, adding, "Thanks to availability entrepreneurs like him, misinterpreting the weather is getting easier and easier."

If Al Gore believed that overuse of carbon fuels were destroying our planet, why would he continue to use hundreds of times more than the rest of us? Why would he have these huge global events to which he and other elites must fly to in private jets and use more energy than whole countries use in a century?
The answer is simple - This is a gigantic hoax designed to make Big Al filthy rich (he has already made billions of dollars off it), and to control the rest of us. I applaud those leaders who will speak out against this Marxist / socialist / communist scheme to impoverish all those who succeed in life and control their lives.

Klause is right to call for a debate about global warming. But it is doubtful Gore will put his world status on the line and accept. Gore would have nothing to win but quite a bit to lose. Gore in all of his arrogence cannot fathom the thought the truth might be differnt than one he envisions.

What a breath of fresh air. This hoax has its roots back in the late sixties - early seventies with the book "The Greening of America". I had to read the book for a college English course. Thank you President Klaus for being the still small voice of reason and continue your efforts in having Al Gore debate you.

Al Gore is a sorry liar who is afraid of debate and reason, and those who buy into this global climate change by human activity are simply easily duped by slick packaging.
It might surprise those who believe in the carbon-offset industry that Al Gore is poised to make millions on top of the millions he already has through companies that deal in these so-called businesses, and these myths will make him wealthier than the family of Sen. Teddy Kennedy, and that's wealth.
Al Gore's 'Inconvenient Truth' is one of the biggest fantasy flicks made and ignores basic science, and those who believe it are easily duped and are not thinking rationally.

It is truly amazing what some wombats believe. Tenured professors have claimed crazy beliefs for so long that what is science is actually a "faith". An example, with a billion dollars to someone who can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, (like a scientific study) is evolution and the beginning of life. Next to that is humans ability to influence the climate any more than nature itself (can you say volcano). Sure we can poison the earth, no one can deny our toxicities of our past. But we are not creating global warming.
But the best part of all this GW is Gore (high priest) is trying to fiscally benefit from this pseudoscience (faith) while the believers (pablum/koolaid drinking nutjobs) deny his capitalistic endeavors (can you say carbon credits).

What a coincidence that the solutions for "global warming" are the exact same things the left has been demanding for years - way before climate change was even an issue: Punitive taxation. The redistribution of wealth. The abolition of private property. The destruction of free market economies and the imposition of a centrally planned "solution". The left is thanking its lucky stars that global warming can be mangled to provide a "scientific" reason to call for worldwide socialism/communism. Thank goodness that Klaus, a man who lived far too long under communism, has the clarity recognize this attack on civil society and courage to defend it.

BRAIN POWER writes: BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE REPORTED SOLUTION TO GLOBAL WARMING IS SIMPLY GOOD POLICY ANYWAY.
Get a clue.

..."The evidence is based on facts that are evident". By: Solange , Wed, 28 May 2008 20:21:54 GMT - This comment by Solange says nothing factual to substantiate his bias supporting man-caused global warming. It is a bunch of nonsense.
…..It appears that air “pollution” is being confused/associated with global warming. The current political battle over global warming/climate change is a totally different subject and boils down to the fundamental issue of:“Does CO2 cause global warming?” Regardless, carbon dioxide (CO2) can not be a pollutant because there would be no life on Earth, as we know it, without carbon dioxide (CO2).
…..Carbon Dioxide (CO2) does not cause Global Warming because there is no past historical scientific factual evidence, data and/or records that link CO2 as a forcing factor or a cause of an increasing temperature rise climate warming period. Any current rising temperatures is not causation. ALL other global warming arguments are irrelevant, since humans are incapable of controlling any natural occurring climate change. Climate has and will forever change. There is no such thing as normal Climate. Enjoy today’s climate while it lasts. Colder is much, much worse than warmer.

Global warming is not a fact. We have barely 70 years of reliable climate data to go on, yet we claim to know what the earth is going to do in the distant future. Absurd. Do we need to be more responsible stewards of our planet? Absolutely, but there needs to be much more research and debate before the phenomenon of global climate change is proven. It is a mistake as concerned citizens to allow legislation on this issue until it is proven one way or the other.

I'm so relieved that we were not able to stop the warming after the last, and by that I mean only the most recent, Ice Age that ended only 10,000 years ago. If we had taken steps to stop the one mile thick glaciers that covered the Midwestern United States and Canada from melting we would not have enough farmland to grow corn to fight this current global warming problem that some are imagining.

IF Gore really believed that he has the science and facts on his side then he should challenge anyone in opposition to a debate. But he REFUSES to debate anyone which in itself should be a HUGE RED FLAG to any rational thinking person. Why doesn't the drive-by media ever report that Gore and his partners are making millions in a carbon scam business. That fact should be enough to bring Gore's motivation in question, profiting from his hoax. I read somewhere that the former leader of GreenPeace was threatening to sue Gore over this hoax. Utter bovine excrement!
Algore should be arrested for sedition in trying to destroy the economy of the United States.
Also, Algore promoted gas prices of over $5.00 per gallon in the U.S. in his book "Earth in the Balance." Algore should be tarred and feather and run out of the U.S. on a rail.

Brian, your comments are typical of the left wing nuts out there that us normal rational people must deal with. Because someone does not share your point of view does not make them an idiot. Show me evidence that my actions are hurting anything and i will alter my habits.
There is money behind everything. Tell me Al Gore isn't profiting from all the GW talk. You have swallowed the kool aid just like a minority of other un-informed people. There is no evidence that man is causing the climate change. Were we the problem in the past through all the other climate changes that have happened?
Jupiter is warming. Is that our fault as well? There are things that happen that we can not explain. We do not have all the answers. Should we pollute? Of course not. But no one has shown me or the majority of humanity proof that driving my SUV to the grocery store is causing the sea levels to rise. What are they saying on Jupiter were Al Gore is from? Who are they blaming? I believe sun spots have more of an effect than anything we humans can do. Many in the extreme left practice "repitition cancels out reasoning". This means if you keep saying something long enough people will start believing it. Ask the world war two era German citizens. It is called propaganda.

Consider this fact when arguing about global warming. Thanks.

There is NO WAY mankind has the science or technological knowledge to determine and make conclusions regarding heat gain or loss by planet Earth, why global temps go up or down, why these cycles of warming and cooling have continued/occurred for 100,000s of years, what the temp is going to be in 100 years. Not even close. Far too many variables, far too little knowledge. Man thought the sun ran on coal until the mid 20th century. Thats is why 85-90% of the papers on global warming are inconclusive. To conclude that it must be man and his bit of Co2 is extremely arrogant and unrealistic.

To Quote Ian "While we don't know the full effects of even a small change in mean temperature, we do know that many of the systems that we have developed over the very short timespan of our existence on this planet probably wouldn't cope. We know that food production would be drastically affected (sure some land would become more arable and some less, but plant strains that we have now probably wouldn't survive under radically different circumstances), obviously the majority of folks that live on the coast would have to sell their new underwater condos and head inland stat, diseases like malaria, etc would spread like wildfire, blah, blah, blah. "
Very arrogant thinking here my friend. You just mentioned how short a period we've been on this planet so it's it arrogant to think humans have SO much influence on the planet that we can drastically change the entire climate system in such a short period?
"plant strains that we have now probably wouldn't survive under radically different circumstances"
Where's the basis for this statement? How do we know they wouldn't become super producers? The answer, we don't know. It's pure speculation.
"obviously the majority of folks that live on the coast would have to sell their new underwater condos and head inland stat, diseases like malaria, etc would spread like wildfire"
Something that always puzzles me. Water expands when it freezes so wouldn't the coastal waters go down?

Solange!!! Oh boy, "Al Gore is a better looking many than this Vaclav Klaus"!!!! Who cares? That line in your comments pretty much puts your credibility in it's correct place. There are over 31,000 scientists that have signed a petition with their oppsition to the GW information. Our globe is going through one of it's cycles. It hasn't warmed at all since 1998, but does CNN report that? The ice that everyone is claiming is no longer there for the Polar Bears has not only regenerated itself, but it is larger than it was last year. Stop listening to CNN. That's your major problem, Solange! You are reading and listenint to the wrong stuff.

I totally agree with the below statement from 'anyone who speaks of'...
"We are in the time of the blog, where facts and reasons are set aside for endless ad-hominen."
'real logic and reason' and the rest of the prior blogs proves exactly this point with the unsubsantiated jibberish they've posted in an attempt to make a point against 'global warming religionists' and so called made up data and guesses.
As much as I'd like to say I told you so when every un-educated 'economist' is choking on sulfur dioxide, I'm just going to keep doing what I can to avoid that REALITY and try to ignore the idiot backlash.

Sir Klaus, as a child of the Slovak Republic, I salute you. If my mother, who was a refugee during the Spring Revolution, was still alive today, she would be praising you.
Also, in response to Kelly, her question is valid. What requirements does it take for someone to 'judge for themselves about climate'. Well, Kelly, first, it takes a degree of intelligence. With this, it takes a degree of self discipline and willpower. And lastly, it takes common sense. Let me explain.
An economist, or any other person for that matter (I call the thinking person) evaluates data and information. He (only using the word 'he' for simplicity sake), then makes preliminary conclusions. After these conclusions, he gets more data. After a certain point of data collection, he analyzes it and compares/contrasts to existing data and historical reference. You then list the data in columns and perform a series of true/false arguments. After this is done, common sense is applied and a final conclusion is made. Vaclav has done exactly that. I read his book and compared/contrasted to Gore's movie as well as other 'scientific data' that exists. The numbers and the facts of 'global warming turned climate change' does not add up. Here are a few facts for you.
1: When Mount St Helens erupted, more 'pollution (as stated by carbon dioxide by these globals scientists) were released into the atmosphere than all of the combustible vehicles worldwide since the inception of the combustible engine over 100 years ago.
2: The amount of carbon dioxide released by the world's oceans have increased by 16% in the last 20 years. Prior to that, carbon dioxide was being absorbed by the world's oceans. 25 to 30 years ago, Time magazine and other publications were advertizing global cooling. Then warming, now cooling again. This is a world cycle of precipatation science aka rain storms. These regulate the planet and all processes happening. Since the numbers are matching to what it was 25 to 30 years ago, and the world's population and amount of combustible engines have increased, to say mankind is inducing global warming (climate change) is already disproved.
3: The sun in the last 10 years was producing more solar flares than currently in the past year on an annual basis. With the lack of temperatures now being felt, this proves that the sun affects us on the Earth more than any other possible influence. Since the Earth is a solar body, it will regulate itself accordingly by producing less or more earthquakes, volcanos, weather systems such is tornadoes, hurricanes, and processes like El Nino, Nina, etc etc.
4: New scientific data of carbon testing layers in the crust does show that the carbon amount on the planet in times of the dinosaurs was more than 3 times the current amount on average for the past 100 years.
So, Kelly, this is what makes Sir Vaclav an 'authority' on the hoax of the whole climate change. He is a humble man trying to help humanity, rather than being arrogant like Gore and his ilk promoting these 'Save the Planet'.
If the world was in a true free market, there would be peace and coexistence, possibly even a golden age. For the fact of the matter would be, there would not be one person wanting to lose all they have gained through free market.
Sir Vaclav, my hopes as a child of Slovakia that you bring your reason and humble hopes of humanity to the rest of the world. For here in the US, our government squabbles in who is going to be hurt next, rather than how to heal everyone.
Sincerely,
Erik Mikula

How is forcing car companies to up the MPG's of their cars limiting your freedom? how is forcing companies to limit the crap they spew out of thier smokestacks limiting your freedom. what about my freedom? do you get to be free to do what you want at the expense of others. lets use our heads here and examine what we say before we say it. stop bickering about global warming and start looking at ways to create sustainable energy and fuel NOT TO "CURE" global warming but to move away from our reliance on others and a finite resource. To your 1st point...ask yourself why is a gallon of gas $4....is it the fact that we need to research alternative fuels or a failed domestic energy policy.. where would the price of a gallon of gas be today had Clinton not vetoed the comprehensive energy poilcy put in front of him in the early 90's.... I am not saying that researching alternative fuels is a waste of time; however, REGULATING that everyone must "follow suit" on the alternative fuel band wagon, when it is simply not efficient, costs more money.... and oh yeah, actually causes more environmental harm than good.... substantiates President Klaus' remarks. To your second remark... the simple fact that you state that humans impact the "natural world around them" displays your lack of ecological understanding. When did we start believing that humans are not "natural"? What have we or do we currently use that is not from nature? EVERYTHING has an impact on the "natural world" around it... b/c well, everything comes from and returns to Mother Earth. To your 3rd statement, alternative power.... you can thank your environmentalist wackos/alarmists for putting a hault to the development of nuclear power here in the United States. At one time, 1000 nuclear power pants were envisioned by the year 2000... there are only 104.... thanks to the nuclear alarmism of the 60's..... Global warming is a HOAX, period. Earth's climate is cyclical..... it has been warming and cooling for MILLIONS of years and will continue to do so whether or not HUMANS are still around..........

Hello. All of you who are against GW seem to be lacking fundamental information to coherently respond to this important topic; therefore, (and I say this with the most humility) you should examine facts and then change your minds.
Global warming is a fact. I have seen it printed in many many many magazines and there's even a movie about it. Al Gore is a better looking man than this Vaclav Klaus. He deserves our respect for standing up to the scientists who I disagree with. The scientists, the ones that support global warming, are being black listed I agree with that.
Statistical data indicates that more people live on earth today than ever before. This and the cows are causing our planet to heat up to the point where we will end up without ice caps and the sea levels will rise (Don't quote me, i saw a CNN report on this).
Ask yourselves (not all of you, just the people who are vulgar and who deny the evidence and the facts) what would it take to finally admit that humans are affecting the environment in which they live and by doing that; altering the weather around the globe? What would it take? You rather call it a "natural cycle"?
Well, this is only the second thing I agree with. You; humans, are naturally responsible for causing these changes. What else would you call it? Un-natural responsible?
I am a firm believer these things cannot be changed. They are irreversible. Young people everywhere and in the US are being deceived into believing they can make a difference. Scientists across the world want to sell the idea that we must act now. What is their motive?
They present data arguing this has never happened before in human history. I ask then, how come about a billion years ago we also went through global warming without cars, or the other stuff that causes GW?
To so emphatically state that GW is induced by humans is pretentious and arrogant. Al Gore lives in this huge house (It is on the Internet, look it up) while Bush doesn't. Climate change changes. Evidence is necessary in order to create propaganda. Facts need to be examined BEFORE they are pressented as evidence, not after.
That's all I have to say.
I leave you with this: Everyone who can't see is blind.

The great Global Warming Hoax

President Klaus is right on the mark with his assessment and predictions. Global warming will go down as one of the biggest hoaxes in history. First off, atmospheric modeling did not and still does not exist which can predict changes in the weather or climate more than about a day or two in advance. Secondly, all of this so called 'data' are extrapolated guesses fed into a computer program....based on...you guessed it... more 'guesses' .... generating a big bag of... yeah ...GUESSES. This is the biggest pot of Psuedoscience put out in quite sometime....by individuals wanting to control and make money off of the 'masses'. Third lets address Michael Mann's hockey stick chart, published in Nature in 1998, without peer review, that Al Gore has so famously used to "win over the masses". Again, just a bunch of contrived 'data'..totally leaving out the warming trend during the Medieval Period and the mini Ice Age which actually caused the Thames River in London to freeze over. And lets not forget that the baseline Mr. Mann used for his temperature measurements dating all the way back from the 11th century to 1990 were yearly average measurements taken from 1961-1990. So Mr. Mann was basing almost 1000 years of so called baseline temperature measurements on a mere 29 years.... yeah sounds like good hard science to me. So for all of you global warming wackos/alarmists that will believe anything that is fed to you, and I blame this in part on our public school system that would rather indoctrinate than teach people how to think, please feel free to feel sorry for yourselves while you drive around in your tin cans, live in shanties, sending money to Al gore so he can buy his "carbon offsets" and fly around in his private jetliner leaving you to cry out the mantra.. "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" .....but DO NOT mandate your idiotic, ridiculous, junk science regulations on me. If you would like to give up your freedoms so that people like Al Gore can sit in a 20,000 square foot house, counting their money and laughing all the way to the bank..... GO RIGHT AHEAD.... BUT DO NOT expect me to give up MY FREEDOMS so that you can feel better about being a stupid, mindless droll.....

I'm a strong supporter of environmental protection but I am highly suspect of the alarmist attitudes and suggested remedies proposed by the IPCC and it's primary spokesperson, Al Gore. Al Gore is a sincere man, and I do not join with those who characterise him as a greedy scam artist perpetrating a hoax. But I know, as does anyone who worked for the Federal Government in the late 90s that Al Gore can be so mistaken as to be guilty of arrogant ignorance. I refer to his whole-hearted support of a government program to reduce paperwork called GPRA..what a dumb idea. It obviously failed and was very expensive to enact! And who can forget his selection of Joe Lieberman as his running mate. I don't hate Al Gore and thought his "inconvenient truth" was very effective to draw our attention to serious enviromental issues" but to lead us to the overblown conclusions with their dubious remedies sounds to me like Al Gore is once again wrong despite his sincerity and the convenience of it all.
I want to see the debate and I wish it to be a real debate, not a contest to see who can make their argument most popular but address the actual mechanism and model's uncertainties.

lets REALLY use our heads here

BRAIN POWER ,

listen people, and listen carefully. too many of your idiots are getting caught up on whether humans are causing warming when really you should be saying WHO CARES. let me explain why I say this.
BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE REPORTED SOLUTION TO GLOBAL WARMING IS SIMPLY GOOD POLICY ANYWAY. From my point of view the issues of "are we causing it or not" or "will sea levels rise 20 or 30 feet" etc. are simply convoluting and politicizing the issue so we continue on our current course. THIS CURRENT ARGUMENT BREEDS COMPLACANCY AND PROMOTES SQUABBLING.
lets look at these solutions here for a minute.
1. Alternative fuels. Hey idiots you think this is a good idea (regardless if global warming exists) with gas being about $4 a gallon and our continued reliance on foreign oil. Perhaps we should look for a sustainable fuel so that our grandkids aren’t paying $20 per gallon….and yes we, as a nation, can and should look more than 5 minutes into the future.
2. Caps on emissions from industry. It has already been unequivocally proven that human being can impact the natural world around them. Ya think the crap coming out of the big industry smoke stacks are good for us or our people! I am sure some of you idiots would say no but I think we can say with a relative amount of certainty that the stuff getting spewed into our air is not good for us. Should companies have to regulate what the put in the air WE breathe…hell yes (I mean Jesus you cant smoke cigs in bars yet you can blot out the sun with pollution emitted from the neighborhood industries…that is ridiculous!!!). Once again lets look more than 5 min. into the future.
3. Alternative power. Once again, much of the power we generate is not through sustainable means which begs the questions, what will we do in the future? Burning coal and other dirty fuels does not bode well for the future, look at china. Simply, moving to more sustainable power is once again, just good policy regardless of global warming or not.
I understand Klaus’ arguments but economists are only looking at it from one side of the issue…Klaus ignores the future and is clearly jaded from his time spent under communist regimes. Hey I’m all for letting people do whatever they want in the free market…wait, lets examine that statement for a minute. Does a company care about dumping its waste in rivers at the expense of the local population if their stock is rising and business is great….OF COURSE NOT, look at china and the yellow river. Thus we can accurately assume, from past history and experience, that just analyzing something from an economic standpoint ignores many things including accountability and morality. To we tell these companies to use the “honor system” when it comes to morality and sound environmental practices…hell that honor system stuff doesn’t even work in kindergarten. So all you people who saying global warming doesn’t exist and use it as an excuse to resist change or movement away from current trends please open your eyes and realize that, in actuality, it doesn’t matter if it exists or not and that the “solutions” to warming are just fantastic policy to begin with. And if it happens to exist, then hey, THROUGH GOOD POLICY (and not alarmism) we are combating the “problem”.

I love how Klaus "alleges". I don't suppose Al Gore "alleges". I bet every time Al Gore "states".
Global warming may or may not be happening. It may or may not be because of human activity. The debate isn't closed, despite those that would regulate our lives, limit our freedoms and destroy our economy.

ES...please provide us with some scientific fact. All I hear from the global warming crowd is the same old thing. You tell us that we are causing the earth to heat. Then you say "warming feedback can cause sudden cooling." Did you read that after you wrote it? Because it sounds like you got both ends covered just in case. Anyone who still beleives in man made global warming is too lazy or refuses to do a little homework. Look outside of your bizaare AGW websites and see what you can find. You would be amazed at what you can find.

Dr. Klaus is a genius in the field of Economics, a native of the Czech Republic and has lived and suffered under the tyranny of Communism. Al Gore will not debate him because Klaus would mop the floor with him. There is a distinct difference between pollution and so-called global warming. Air pollution is toxic, whether it be human or naturally (volcanoes, vegetative decay, metamorphic rock out-gassing, etc.) induced. CO2 however has NO DIRECT LINK to global warming. Al Gore knows this and so does Dr. Klaus. For all of you CO2 alarmists, I urge you to please educate yourselves with a lesson in paleoclimatology and ice core data. Start off by looking at the Ordivician Period, where CO2 levels were up 10 times (4000 ppm) what they are today. The Ordivician was an extremely COLD geologic time period. Then look at the Eocene Epoch where CO2 levels were 5 times higher than today's levels. This time was much hotter than today. We had an ice age after that time (the Pleistocene) where CO2 levels were close to the same or slighlty higher (1 to 1.5 times) than today's levels. Conclusion: Al Gore is creating hype about CO2 emissions to sell a Socialist-style economic agenda. Dr. Klaus is aware of this and the American people need to be aware of this. No one wants pollution but does anyone want to live under an oppressive Soviet-style tyranny of carbon credits and cap and trade policies? Wake up America!!

Bubb Wiggly- first I take issue with the idea that Al Gore is an intellectual, please, the man barely graduated and is not in any way an intellectual. I think he is very ignorant of science and the scientific method. I doubt very much if he could initiate an experiment, conduct an experiment and document the results without a team of scientist helping him. There is no proof that global warming is here to stay, there is no proof that humans are causing global wearming. You might want it to be true but wanting something does not make it true.

A real Statesman
By:
Laurence Wagman ,

|
|
Look up the definition of Statesman. We have too few. A statesman takes risk to do what's right rather than whats policial. Sadly we have too few statesman in the world.
Look if the planet were in danger I would be all for changing my ways. The problem with the global warming crowd are the following. 1) There is no proof that the change in the earth's temperature is not part of natural climate change. 2) There is no credible proof that man can actually warm the climate (outside a silly and flawed model). 3)There is no evidence that changing our habits will do anything that affects current climate trends.
There are some things in this debate we have proof: 1) Recent environmental based policies such as the use of ethonol in fuel have caused pain and suffering throughout the world's poorest countries. 2) Emission Caps are bad for the economy. 3) Global emission treaties hurt western democracies and embolden emerging dictatorships. 4.) Earth's temperature has cooled over the past 8 years (The hockey stick broke)
When will we rally behind the real statesman (like Klaus). Sadly there are too few statesman out there.
When Churchill was screaming about the Nazis and Communists he was called war mongerer by his countryman and booted out of office - right after WWII).
There is an answer to all this ...when the economic turmoil caused by this junk science affects the average citizen; democracies will find politicians who will answer the call and at the same time boot those who wreak havic on the economy from office. It happend in the United states in 1980, it happend in the UK with Maggy Thatcher, and it will happen again! The sooner the better!

I think some of you don't fundamentally get how science works. First off, point to where scientists are being "blacklisted" for "speaking out" against global warming? When you say speaking out, do you mean putting forward cohesive and convincing analysis based on solid data that shows AGw doesn't exist? And by blacklisted do you mean that they lose their jobs and can't publish anymore? As someone who knows many people, not big researchers with grants, but scientists who read the journals and contribute in their own ways, that kind of stuff is not really going on. You have to read the journals. What some scientists will say outside of publication is opinion, I agree. But just because a lot of scientist are of the opinion that to throw out AGW you'd have to throw out a lot of good science. Science does get it wrong, but do you think we'd ever get it right otherwise? Yeah at one point in time people thought the earth was flat. Tons of scientific theories have been thrown out, but we know a great deal about how the world works now, and if you tell someone "prove it" and they say "i can't" think for a second that something as complicated as global climate change, no a single cell, there is so much to know and take into account that asking someone who spends their life work parsing and creating this knowledge to sum it up in a sound bite you are going to throw in their face doesn't sound too inviting.
As far as the data that goes into the models: best guess? We have temperature records, CO2 records, we have much much better than a best guess for all sorts of things that affect climate. Remember: just because other planets are warming, just because the earth has warmed like this in the past, just because the ocean temperature might not increase temperature this year even with record temperatures being set across the globe; what you have to understand is that our climate is an incredibly complex system that reacts to things in ways that seem to contradict the causes. For example, warming feedback can cause sudden cooling. Very few of you seem very open to debate, and by the way, Al Gore is not the World King of Global Warming. He made a movie and won some awards. He is a politician. Why are you all looking to him to defend an entire body of science?
Do you see how often in history scientific get this riled up about something? They usually are pretty docile...Do you really think it can just be about money?
As far for the idiot who said there was more arctic and polar ice now, come on! How much proof do you need? We have pictures to compare!

Here's my take on Al G. - He can't really ignore science altogether (although he seldom makes reference to it), which now indicates global cooling is occurring. He can, however, create all this hoopla, then take credit when science finally admits the cooling cycle has begun. Being a liar, he wins on both ends of the argument. So sad.

Al Gore is probably the smartest man on the face of the earth. Really, the guy starts a radical movement that has captivated the world preaching about climate change, global warming, ect...He gets the media to buy in, governments across the world to buy in, makes a movie...then what does he do? Like any good capitalist, he starts a GREEN private equity fund and becomes partner in the largest venture capital firm in silicon valley, raises $500m for this initial fund, and charges investors 2% per year and 20% of the profits...Do the math folks, the guy is printing money for himself...Genius, absolutely genius...I used to not care for the man and thought he was a fraud, now a I think he is one of the best business men of the last 100 years (still a fraud however).

Won't stoop to a debate?

I like the comment suggesting that Gore won't stoop to a debate on global warming because that would give credence to the idea that the subject is debatable when global warming is a well established fact. It illustrates much better than I could the flaw in liberal argument. Goes like this:
"I shouldn't have to prove something because it's already been proven."
"When? How?"
"I just told you, I don't have to answer that because it's already been answered."
What's amazing is a bunch of them really think like this... they think that surely this whole movement couldn't have been spun up if it wasn't true, and that's proof enough for them.
As Ms. Coulter has said previously, when we're expected to believe something without evidence and are scorend for questioning, that's called religion, not science.
The "science" of global warming seems to be the only branch that's allowed to draw conclusions and accusations first, then later attempt to fill in minor details like facts, research, etc. Strangely this approach in other branchs of science tends to skew facts and observations towards a pre-determined conclusion. Thankfully global warming scientists are immune to this!

While you guys are all grunting and whistling in unison for Vaclav Havel to be your new shiny president, why don't you have a think about the possibilities of either scenario. I imagine that no one on this board is a climatologist and neither am I. I am forced to take at face value much of what I read and hear on the subject of climate change as I have not a jot of clue as to the real intricacies of how the climate works.
So, if we honestly think about the possibilities we can narrow the potential outcomes into four broadly defined poles:
1) It's not true and we don't do anything. Nothing happens, everything is blissfully indulgent and we continue to poison the air with our emissions (which of course has other ugly side effects than just climate change, such as acid rain, respiratory disease, etc)
2) It's not true and we do something about it. This is the bogeyman that everyone here seems to be bleating about. So what? We spend an admittedly sizable amount of money making our economies greener and more efficient and we get away from oil (yay, energy independence, boo middle east shieks), and we may damage our economic growth by a couple of percentage points for a while. Sure, this isn't nice, but we are after all getting away from that gucci-defacing acid rain remember?
3) It's true and we do something about it. This is what that evil, drooling Stalinesque mastermind Gore wants us to do, so I know you don't want to do it instinctively, but hear me out. Here we not only help our economies and environment to clean up, but we stave off potential disaster. Sounds pretty neat to me.
or, finally, 4) It's true and we don't do anything. This isn't pleasant. While we don't know the full effects of even a small change in mean temperature, we do know that many of the systems that we have developed over the very short timespan of our existence on this planet probably wouldn't cope. In short, at it's worst it would be the end of everything as we know it now.
Now, I'm all for debate and thinking things through, but considering the potential dangers here, don't you think that if the overwhelming majority of scientists are stating that they believe this is real that we should do something about it?

Scientists Will Follow the Money for Projects
By:
CB ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 16:52:19 GMT
|
|
Take a look at the average income of a research scientist who is not engaged in medical/pharmaceutical research. They typically have Masters degrees minimum, and most have a PhD. If they're not college professors, they are probably struggling to make a living for themselves and their families. Average income for a climatologist: $60K per year. Average income for an oceanographer: $65K per year and spending many months at sea on a research ship. And there aren't many jobs open in this area for those who want to make it a profession. Believe me, I've tried.
So if you're an earth scientist, climatologist, etc., it's now possible to "strike it rich." The Global Warming fallicy has provided the mother lode for anyone with scientific credentials to finally earn some decent money. And there are literally hundreds of millions of dollars floating around out there for anyone who can dream up a project that supports Global Warming. Why aren't the nay-sayer scientists putting together similar projects on the other side; there's no pool of money waiting for them to jump in. Only those who have something that can add credence to the Global Warming myth get funded, because that's where the money is.
Believe me, there are hundreds of scientists who have signed on to the Global Warming myth, who know for a fact that it is all a fantasy. But they're finally able to make some money in "science"; albeit "Weird Science." Just follow the money...

I look forward to listening to these two men defend their positions. I personally feel that we are being manipulated by people that are only interested in their own agendas. Where I don't disagree that we have serious issues with the current climate, we need to make informed choices based on more than just one partially understood climate model or one all encompassing opinion. If I believed in conspiracies, I would think that this issue is just being used to force us to design/utilize new sources of green technologies for good or ill.

Klaus' views on global warming
By:
Kevin ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 16:37:11 GMT

|
I have read many scientific articles on human induced global warming and when the data or the methods of such papers are closely examined, they all come off lacking one thing - any scientifically validated proof that humans are responsible for anything related to climate variation. I have a Ph.D. and teach environmental conservation at a major university, and I have to admit that what I have witnessed is lots of propaganda and very little good science. The models that we often hear about that prove global warming are designed to predict increased temperature with increased CO2, and then we say, “see, with increased CO2, the planet is getting warmer”- just as we designed the models to predict (who what a revelation)! With over 600,000 years of ice-core data, there has never been a time when the planet has gotten warmer with increased CO2 levels, and it has varied from 180 to 320 ppm naturally before humans could have had any impact, but even at 320 ppm, it was the temperature of the planet that was driving CO2 levels, not the other way around. It is changes in solar activity and changes in the sun-earth geometric configuration that is driving temperature changes, not human created CO2.
I will not post my actual name with this posting because I could lose my job for writing this letter, and at least be excluded from future funding opportunities. The Czech Republic President is correct, we are losing freedom in the name of Al Gore’s money making efforts to tell us we are responsible for climate change, which helps him sell “carbon credits.” Gore has a very strong economic incentive to scare the world that it is coming to an end. Rewatch his movie, and carefully record any evidence that he presents that humans are responsible for global warming. There is not one bit of evidence that he presents other than the huge line graph showing temperature and CO2 levels, but notice that the graphs are not overlaid because to do so would have shown that the planet always get warm first, and then CO2 levels increase, not the other way around. This who human caused global warming is a calculated myth that is being perpetrated by the environmentalists, and I used to believe this group, but not anymore. They have a dangerous agenda that must be stopped.

It just goes to show that lemmings will follow anyone they think is a leader, as long as they don't have to think for themselves. Sheesh. Question authority, people! The science on climate change is FAR from settled. Listen to both sides of the debate and have skepticism for all that you hear. But especially have skepticism for anyone who is asking you to give up your freedoms, your money, or power. If Gore was truly convinced about climate change, wouldn't he downsize his many mansions or stop jetting around the world in private jets? His refusal to debate makes you wonder about his true beliefs or maybe he just knows that he cannot stand up to a challenge?

The story here looks much like ever other pollution story in the last 100 years. People profiting from said pollution assures everyone that mercury, asbestos, lead, DDT, etc, is harmless. Scientists disagree. Often after many years, science always seems to win. This one shouldn't be any different, except for the huge amounts of money involved this time.

Czech Pres. Klaus is not the only leader that can think for himself. U.S. Senator Inhofe has figured it out, also. Of course, figuring things out requires analytical skills. That inherently deselects a wide swath of sheeple in the U.S., whose idea of analytical thinking is to debate the merirts of MTV videos. When confronted with unassailable logic and the folly of their own propaganda, the technophobic tree saving, whale hugging al gore wannabees just ratchet up their shrill decibles. In other words, they respond with emotion, and eschew data and analysis.
The economic consequences of unrestrained climate alarmism will be disastrous. Klaus was right to compare these people to communists.

I agree with President Klaus that the environmental debate has become polarized with each camp dogmatically reiterating its position while claiming that only irrational or greedy people could possibly hold a different view. Everybody wins when there is an engaged debate wherein each side has accepted the possibility that they may be wrong.
Unfortunately, each side holds certain assumptions that they are explicitly unwilling to question. Environmentalists will generally resist considering whether human interests should trump the interests of non-human systems. Opponents of climate change are largely opposed to critically examining whether conventional definitions of "progress" and "human interest" even make sense given what we are coming to learn about the complex and interdependant nature of the world in which we live.

"Ha! This clown thinks he can debate an intellectual. Come on Klause! Get real! Just because you are the president of a country that can barely be found on the map, you think you can play with the big boys. Bzzzzzt - WRONG!" - bozo
Hey bozo - If you think Gore is an intellectual - think again. He was kicked out, or failed - in every college endeavor he attempted. The only thing he did in his life that brought him fame was to win a popularity contest in Tennessee that brought him to the senate. After that he couldn't even win his "home" state in his bid for the presidency.
Gore would have been totally unemployable outside politics - doesn't that say say something about politics?
The president of CZ is an economist - which means he finished something - graduated if you will. He has more intelligence that the perpetrator of the global lie in my opinion, proven intelligence.
Oh, and he would also have the background to be able to sniff out the politics of someone like Gore, as he grew up under the same oppression Gore is suggesting to the world - looks just like what failed and was defeated in his little country - free people want to stay free!

By:

Vaclav Klaus unintentionally makes another argument, one for amending our Constitution to allow non-native born persons to run for president. Were he allowed in this year's contest, he'd be the sole sane, principled adult standing. *heh*
More power to him. Of course, Algore and his lying loons won't debate a rational person like Klaus, so his challenge to the anthropogenic global warmists (now changing their tune to "climate changism" as data contra their positions is slowly seeping out from under the conver of the Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind) is simply going to stand as another data point in the weakness of their argument... as it goes unanswered by anything other than irrational shouting. Still.
Argument by lies and shouting down is all the Church of AGW has, after all. (BTW, where's the "hockey stick" now? *LOL* Lying AGW loons and their hockey sticks. And that was the best the Church of AGW has had to date.)

To the Collin-bashers and Collin
By:
Chris ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 14:50:06 GMT
|
|
Collin-bashers - As I sit in my Shanghai apartment and type this, I can tell you there is a lot more free market activity in China than you are apparently aware of. Sure the PRC still controls major segments of the economy, but China has come a long, long way, and continues to move in the direction of greater freedom and more open information. Is it comparable to a western government? No; but they are moving in the right direction, unlike western governments, which all seem to sliding more and more towards socialism.
Colin - the problem with your initial argument is the link you make between free markets and a clean environment. The two are really unrelated. In China, the greatest efforts of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and Sustainable Business are being performed by businesses in the private sector. Again, is it perfect? No. Do we have a long way to go? Yes, absolutely. But the trend is towards more green, more corporate responsibility, and, I think, in the right direction.
To change the subject, Al Gore is at heart an immoral, souless, unprincipled political whore who will say anything and do anything if he thinks it will increase his personal power. I lost all faith in the Nobel Foundation when they awarded a self-proclaimed terrorist, Yasser Arafat, 1/3 of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. I thought it was a joke then, and Gore winning it more recently has only served to confirm my belief.

First of all, I don't see the economic harm or harm to freedom by reason of taking action against global warming. In fact, I see an opportunity for technological innovation, new markets, cheaper energy, cheaper travel etc. Also, I see less air pollution and cleaner water for healthier populations and reduction of health care costs. The anti-gloval warming people are just trying to continue to profit off of their oil & gas money while living in the mansions out in the country. Gore won't debate them because he doesn't want to give them any credence and doesn't want to make this into a controversy since global warming is well-established fact.

AGW HOAX
By:
John ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 14:01:28 GMT
|
|
Let's keep it scientific then: Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is a theory (hypothesis). It is an unproven theory. What you do with theories is put them to the test with scientific observations. Let's see what data points we now have:
1) Average annual temperatures have not surpassed 1998 (NOAA)
2) Average annual temperatures are now trending downward since 1998 (NOAA)
3) Ocean temperatures have not risen since 2000 when the 3000 Argo buoys were launched. The buoys even show a slight decrease in ocean temperatures
4) The Arctic ice froze to February levels by December, there are 1mm more sq km than before (previous was 13mm sq km)
5) The Arctic ice is 20cm thicker than "normal" (whatever that is)
6) All polar bear pods are stable or growing (NOAA/PBS)
7) Mount Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming, rather "sublimation"
8) The Antarctic is not "melting", it is growing in most places, the sloughing off at the edges is normal as the ice mass grows
9) The majority of the Antarctic is 8 degrees below "normal" (again, whatever that is)
10) The coveted .7 degree rise in temperatures over the last 100 years has been wiped out with last years below "normal" temperatures
11) Al Gores film was just deemed "propaganda" in a court of law in the UK as many points could not be substantiated by scientists
12) It was also just reveled that some of the footage in Al’s film was CGI. The ice shelf collapse was from the movie “The Day After Tomorrow” (ABC)
13) One of the scientists that originally thought that CO2 preceded the warming has now found with new data that the CO2 rise follows the warming (Dr David Evans)
14) Storms have become less frequent and less severe (many GW alarmists are now backtracking these earlier "theories")
15) Droughts have always happened and always will
16) The greenhouse effect is real, our small contribution to it cannot even be measured
17) Several publications, including those that are “warmist” have recently written that the “natural” cycles of the earth may “mask” AGW. Give me a break.
18) 31,000 scientist have signed a petition against AGW!
With China (1 new coal fired plant coming on line each week) and India spewing millions of tons of CO2 in to the atmosphere, along with the rest of the world increasing their CO2 “production” over the last ten years, these results should be impossible.
Now, please be so kind to give me one piece of observable evidence that man is causing "global warming".

Having studied the climate change for more than 40 years and discussed the topic with hundreds, I have yet to meet a person who is certain that GW exists. The most intriguing question is why no one has EVER attempted to show any cause and effect relations. Plenty of correlation, such as [maybe] heat and CO2, but nothing more. The only thing we know for absolute certain about climate is that it goes in cycles. All else is inference.

Last week, over 31,000 scientist came out and questioned the validity of Global Warming. The world needs to wake up and realize that Global Warming is a scam that is making the eco-nuts rich, and we the middle class and the poor are the ones suffering. As I saw on television many many times on PBS,NBC, even Lesley Stah had almost the whole show of 60 minutes, and CNN have spent many many hours on cable TV telling people about the global warming. Most of the things they have claimed on these shows are false. Now it is a good oppotunity for any pundits, Al Gore, or any scientists in this major to debate with President of Klaus. Especially CNN has spent so much time for it. It would be wonderful if CNN spends one hour on live debate or all of the CNN's pundits are just either know nothing about global warming or political hacks. I am so glad more and more people are starting to speak up against this hoax and the hoaxster, Gore. This whole issue with "global warming" is ridiculous. If it were serious, does anyone really believe these people would continue to fly all of their private jets; have 3, 4, 5 large homes; design "carbon credits" where we "get" to pay people like Al Gore to "replace" the carbon we use...please. I would never pay a cent toward such a foolish device. Al Gore has gotten rich and is geting richer off of the gullibility of the world...how stupid we are to buy into this idiocy. Why would I ever put trust in a man who makes a knowingly inaccurate movie about an fabricated environmental "problem", campaigns for awards for his "efforts", and yet will not debate the very issues with scientists and others who want to actually have the public know the truth and accuracy of our situation. Gore is an idiot, but a rich one, and people who are following his game are bigger fools putting the rest of us at risk. This really needs to stop. The foolishness is what is damaging our lives, people.

Hey, Collin. It seems to me, if all of us "right wing lunatics" need to go to China see the ill effects of an unregulated "free market", that we must be doing something right here in the US. Why do I suspect that you are not satisfied with the current level of regulation in this country and want to further tighten the screws. You were probably in favor of the Kyoto treaty, too. Of course that little bit of nonsense gave a pass to China and India and shoved the responsibility onto the US. Why? Because the US is the world's largest polluter, right? You seriously think that China is a free market! Take away the regulations that surround us by the environmental nut jobs and we'd still be nothing like China. As Americans we demand more of ourselves. In China they're just trying to survive. They don't have any sway in what companies do around them. On the other hand if enough people in America decide they want something they get it because they vote with their pocket book.

Isn't it interesting how Gore ALWAYS has somewhere to be or something to do when he's confronted with an invitation to debate this utter bunk he's selling. His lie is every bit as bad as the Bush lie. Greenies cry, "use more biofuels!!" and look what happened, global food shortages. I believe in alternative energy but it's decades from being implemented on a nationwide scale. In the meantime, we're going to need oil and soon, so let us procure our own in the interim until we get other methods up and running. You can't say stop buying from the Saudis on one hand and no domestic drilling on the other, you simply can't have it both ways.

The incredible ignorance of people who have never even taken an economics class. China is not a free market. On the other hand it is a very controlled market. A free market offer recourse to free citizens to seek recourse for people that are directly effecting their life or liberty. China is a communist country. Free market can not be free without protecting individual liberties. Environmentalists are social collectivists and can not comprehend the meaning of liberty.

There is so much wrong with the left these days that it's difficult to truly wrap ones head around the problems, but if I had to point to one lunatic idea that has brainwashed the world, has artificially raised prices on everything, forced ridiculous regulations on hard-working people, and raised the level of pure, toxic SMUG on the world stage, it would have to be the farce of man-made global warming.
But how can you people argue against SAVING THE WORLD?! You scum! Putting your money in front of Mother Earth!

Vaclav Klaus Climate Joke Awards

|
"Richard Moss, a vice president of the World Wildlife Fund, said the findings “highlight the urgency of the climate change problem” and provided important new support for action both to limit emissions and adapt to inevitable changes."
And this on the same day that Reality Czech President Vaclav Klaus -- perhaps the Santa Klaus of the denialist movement in Eruope -- this one the same day that President Klaus comes to the National Press Club in Washington DC to promote his new anti-global warming book titled "Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?" -- and later meeting with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.
Quote: Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday in the USA that he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English translation of his latest Czech-language book that argues that environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. "I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation," Klaus said. "So I'm ready to do it."
Which reminds me -- the Vaclav Klaus Climate Joke Awards -- created three months ago here:

Shall the Less Teach the Great on How Then to Live?

It is strange that back into the early 1990's the EPA did carbon off sets as part of industrial balancing in regions and counties. I dealt with this in the auto industry since we look at adding paint lines and other processes that would affect the environment. Businesses traded emission output with each other as a mutual agreement to balance it for that region and understand the impact of industrial growth.
However, now it the buying and selling of "carbon footprint" or whatever we want to label this scam. And there is now money in the exchange. Did the Clinton/Gore admin create this system to line pockets of people and governments because it is "for the environment" versus something that was already done at a minimum EPA fee for administrating the balance? Think about it. "Follow the money."
I am for the environment and we need to be good stewards of this earth that God gave us. But we must not line pockets to incorporate conservative(meaning to converse our resources)principles of being caretakers of this earth.
I think is great that the little country of CZ is speaking out. I travel to CZ alot for business and pleasure and being in ever corner of the country. If you want to learn about being an industrial environmentally minded capitalist, they are doing it. They lived under the iron fist and they are enjoying the new freedom but with an understanding to be good stewards as well. They are not anti enviroment.
And they have a public rail system that blows others away. Maybe we need the small to teach the big on how to live.

No mention of hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, which distributions are used, and so on. By itself, this should tell us that this is a fake and phony assertion. Refer us to the data on which rests the argument so that we can do our own statistical analysis. I want to hear not from climatalogists, but from statisticians.

Climate models are incapable of predicting the weather 30 days hence and they cannot even REPLICATE THE HISTORICAL CLIMATE, say, over the last 60 years.
Communism, fascism, and now, its other cousin, the pseudo-religious eco-Nazis. All of these ideologies, without exception, have been promulgated by the upper to elite ruling classes to control those whom they abhore; the working class.
Of course, the ruling elites are immune from any and all limitations they impose on the working class.

The fact is most Americans know this is garbage science and finally our friends in Europe are beginning to see it to. The problem now of course is the governments of the world see dollar signs and are creating carbon taxes, carbon credits that companies must purchase to continue business, and so on and so forth giving them total control of commerce while getting kickbacks on top of the existing sales taxes and other taxes. The ridiculously corrupt UN now sees a chance to create a true world law and effectively give itself control of the world's governments and hopefully break the back of the US which right now is the only thing keeping the UN from having the power it so desperately seeks. The laws and restrictions they seek to put in place will create a socialist paradise in which the government may micro manage every aspect of our lives down to our energy consumption. If this all sounds a bit far fetched to you talk to some people in England who are already seeing punishing taxes due to this green fear mongering.
As for a scientific consensus there is nothing of the sort. Scientist are getting braver and beginning to speak out more against global warming (or climate change since they changed the name due to the Earth being in a cooling phase). Just a few weeks ago a conference of 400 of the world's most respected climatologist and geogolist gathered in Washington DC and spoke out against it. There is still fear by the scientific community and many stories of scientist being blacklisted for disagreeing with the fear mongerers. All while Al Gore has lined his pockets to the tune of over $100 million dollars in a matter of 6 years using his financial companies stock in "green" companies such as carbon credit companies and bio-fuel companies (thanks for the world wide food shortage by the way)all of which became profitable based off of his brilliant fear marketing. The corruption here is almost mind boggling and is why you will never see any of the so called experts on climate change debate any of the scientist asking for debate instead they resort to accusations and name calling like all people who are in the wrong do.
By the way can someone explain to me how every planet in our solar system except Pluto could be going through climate change at the same time and it be our fault? Just last week there was a well hidden story with pictures from NASA of a new red spot caused by a warming cycle on the planet. I suggest going to NASA's website and studying the info for yourself...or you could put all of your trust in Al Gore and his celebrity lackeys.

ES, In your post titled "a response" you say " Basically, there is no other way to explain why things are getting hotter besides human inputs."
Computer models are only as reliable as the information they use. Much of this information is of the "best guess" variety. There are lots of things those models never predicted that have happened, such as the coming fifteen years of global cooling that some scientists are predicting(a temporary break from the global warming the say).
Mars is getting warmer and I doubt that our little Rovers are giving off that much CO2. What is the perfect temperature supposed to be? The Earth has been both warmer and cooler than it is now.
Now, I'm all for a clean environment. I think it would be great if everyone did what the could to make the world a cleaner place. However, scaring people with doomsday scenarios is not the way to go.
Despite what some say, there isn't a consensus that global warming is man-made.

Thank you, President Klaus. Finally, someone has the sense to challenge this idea. As far as I know Al Gore is not a scientist. He is a a politician! Politicians have "Agendas!" We should hear from scientists whose paycheck does not come from a government funded program.
History tells us the earth has gone through periods of change like this before. Logic tells us to explore all sides of the question before bankrupting every country on earth to satisfy a "political agenda."

Um guys, I know how hard it is to adjust to something uncomfortable that this time this idea is the right one. There have been right ideas, and sometimes in cases like this, it isn't obvious to most people how it all works. It sounds like hocus-pocus and is easy to dismiss as biased scientist babble. However. For one, the scientific community awards competing ideas. A climatologist would love to discover something that totally disproved the event of global warming or the human effects. Science gives a lot more weight to opposing views than mos people. So, the fact that so many scientists are agreeing, and so few disagreeing is that few have been able to come up with anything remotely plausible that can put down the current model. This is their jobs. The don't screw around. Now, do I think that propaganda has become a big part of the way the environmental movement is conducted? Yes. But the Green Party isn't controlling them. They are independently coming together. It is a movement, not a "cultural revolution." We know a lot about our planet, more than you'd might think, at least with the atmosphere and geosphere. We know the things that go in to heat the earth, and we know all the ways it can get out. We have built mindblowingly fast supercomputers to run models of all those effects over massive time scales. The models accurately predict temperature flucuations over tens of thousands of years. If this is starting to sound like science babble then hang one for a second. Basically, there is no other way to explain why things are getting hotter besides human inputs. They model just doesn't work any other way. People do promote such a thing as a green lifestyle, but no one is being oppressed for not being "green". There are no beatings of polluters in the streets. There is social action, but it is, outside of a few fringe elements, totally pacifistic. No one is forcing you to change your mind, just inviting to lend a critical eye to the facts and not let yourself blindly shut something out.

The unacceptable face of Socialism in Time

Remember Tim Yeo? He was the Conservatives spokesman who intervened during one of the most ghastly episodes in the appalling history of Britain’s Labour Government. It was the dreadful holocaust during the foot and mouth epidemic. Yeo complained that the Government were not doing enough slaughtering.
Now he has excelled himself in making a statement of pure authoritarian socialism, as readers following the last link in the piece immediately above might have noted. Still pursuing the insubstantial global warming theory, in complete disregard of the ever-mounting contrary evidence, he and his cross-party mates are urging the introduction of a personal carbon tax. Yeo offers his justification in a paraphrase of this succinct and honest one by Moonbat himself
"It's more progressive than taxation, it tends to redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor; it's transparent; it's easy for everyone to understand, you all get the same carbon ration."
Ration books disappeared after we managed to get rid of the post war Labour government, but socialists still have a sentimental attachment to the idea of forced equality for everybody (except MPs of course).
The Englishman and his correspondents take a rather different view. Hear, hear!
Personal carbon credits: the trick: The phoney climate change war is upon us. We're are being drawn into a Blitz spirit
Get out your gas masks and tin hats. We are under attack from a noxious army of doom-troopers demanding that we treat climate change as a rerun of the Second World War. In the latest move to militarise everyday life, the Environmental Audit Committee of MPs has seriously proposed energy rationing, aka “personal carbon credits”.
What next? Little (green) Hitlers patrolling the streets yelling “Put that high-energy light out!”? Or a campaign to bring back rickets? Everybody from the Prince of Wales to liberal newspapers and former Labour ministers now compares climate change to the war. Baroness Young of Old Scone, head of the Environment Agency, says this is “World War Three”. If it's not breaking the Official Secrets Act, could somebody explain what on earth they are on about? The notion of a “war on carbon” makes even less sense than the glorious “wars” on terror/drugs/crime/whatever.

Well if that's the case it should be an easy debate. Except, that isn't the case which is why global warming alarmists won't debate. Also, he never said global warming was a lie. He is against the "climate alarmism" and hysteria used to herd people such as yourself into shelling out more money and your freedom to governments around the world. Twenty years from now when NONE of the alarmist predictions have come true I wonder if you'll be man or woman enough to admit you were duped. I doubt it.

President Klaus makes such a great point that seems to get lost in all of this "debate" - climate change alarmists are seeking to demand how each of us lives our life - it's inherently lacking in human liberty and EVERYTHING the United States was founded on.
There is not one scintilla of evidence to show that global warming is anthropomorphic; correlation is not causation.
As such, caution is our best guide.

Global Warming --The greatest scam ever perpetrated on mankind.
By:
Gary Stary ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 03:42:47 GMT
|
|
The Socialist elitists are seen as a very serious and dangerous enemy to the United States. Their goal is total world wide dominance. Their strategy is really simple, and it’s cloaked in the global warming and environmental issues. Their sinister strategy is this: What person in their right mind would oppose or criticize a plan that will protect the Earth’s environment and prevent global warming? The plan has the wits being frightened out of the people of the world into believing that the world in a few years will come to a climatic end; if they do not follow their phony global warming religion. Once the people concede to this religious hoax, they unknowingly sacrifice their freedoms and national sovereignty. The Socialist elitists then amass their ultimate goal of utopian power, control and wealth.

Global Warming ?
By:
AMR ,
Wed, 28 May 2008 03:19:18 GMT
|
|
Anthropogenic Warming (A.W.) is not established to the extent many think. A consensus is not a substitute for a proven event. The probabilistic modeling used to predict climate changes are scenarios and only as good as the parameters & defined variables in the model. The facts about AW are that the phenomenon is poorly understood and contaminated by skewed data
Case in point:
Anthony Watts is a broadcast meteorologist who is leading an all-volunteer effort to photograph and document all of the weather stations in the GHCN. He started in the US and now 1/3 of US stations have been photographed. 85% of them do not meet the minimum standards of NOAA and have a strong warm bias. The NOAA specifies that temperature sensors should be a minimum of 100 feet away from buildings, concrete, and asphalt.
This indicates that up to half of the observed warming is not real. Watts presented his findings to scientists at UCAR. You can see examples here:
http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/weather_stations/
President Kalus is correct, The politics of consensus, in the realm of Science is akin to scientific fascism. When a politicized scientific body, (IPCC) proclaims that the "debate is over" and acts to STOMP out any dissenting views, they are employing the exact same "scientific methods" that the Nazi's used in the 1930's to "prove" their eugenics and anti-Jewish "scientific" theories.
Science requires debate in order to find the truth. And the IPCC is actively working to that end...

I am 59 years old and remember the Country as it was. Without cell phones and computers and with a great many other things we lack now. Like civility, although my comments seem to suggest prejudice. It's too long a story to refute this now.
We used to tell jokes. In the Midwest at a time, there was a particular kind of joke called a "Polack joke". It would portray a stupid person in a certain humerous conundrum.
I think, in retrospect, they should have been called "Czech jokes.".

As an economist, you are simply not in an ideal position to evaluate scientific evidence relative to global climate change. I see that you could argue the same about Al Gore, a man who served as Vice President of the United States for eight years. But then again, I'm not aware of any learned paper or other academic accomplishment you can list on your "economist" resume. I mean, what exactly have you ever accomplished. Please respond. Good luck with your leader-of-the-Czech-Republic gig!

It is about time world leaders and intelligent economical thinkers start to come out and renounce the propaganda put forward by such hippocrits as Al Gore. I am so sick of the global warming propaganda. He's exactly right - washed out communists have taken up refuge in the environmentalist movement and are attempting to curb capitalism by hampering it with unfounded regulation and policies which takes away our freedoms. It's time for people to wake up and see what this global warming hoax is really all about. Why won't Al Gore debate?--typical of leftists - their positions are unassailable and not up for debate! What's he afraid of? That he might be proven wrong, or that an opposing view might find its way into public view? What a coward.

Czech President Klaus on Climate Change

It is amazing to me that leader of a former communist country is a voice for freedom, and the former second in command of the U.S. is voice of state control and limitation of individual rights. President Klaus' experience with totalitarian state control lets him see the threats that are oblivious to many, many, foolish Americans.

Better yet, Klaus, debate Gore on the fact that alternative fuel production is indirectly leading to starvation for many of the world's poorest countries. Tell him to fly his jet over and have a look.

Peak Warming, Peak Oil

To put the whole Climate Change issue into perspective vis-a-vis the Peak Oil Crisis, everyone needs to ask themselves, their associates, all sitting elected officials and those seeking office, especially the office of President of the United States, "What is more threatening in both the long and short terms, a beneficial 1 degree F rise in average world temperatures over the past 100 years, or a 1 percent decline in world oil production over the last 100 weeks - with steepening declines forecast? Furthermore, can our economy better deal with declining fuel inventories in an environment of persistent warming, or in an environment of declining average temperatures over the next several decades, the most likely scenario given the highly reliable solar inertial motion (SIM) model forecasts of climate change?” Solar cycle # 24 will tell the tale. The problem is not AGW. The real problem is the end of cyclical warming coincident with the onset of Peak Oil.

Klaus vs Gore
By:
Eric Robinson ,

Klaus is exactly right, and Gore is either a fool or a crook. Will the "environmentalists" be willing to reimburse the companies who've purchased "Carbon Credits", and consumers who've paid extra for "clean" energy, when man-made warming is found to be wrong? Will Gore be jailed for his company's participation in the conspiracy? Anyone who's studied religion recognizes immediately that the "Global Warming" movement is communism redux, repackaged as a pseudo-religion. Let's see, hmmm. Catch words. Sacrifice. Starting with children. Vilifying non-believers. Requiring followers to "believe" in the absence of proof. Global power ambition. Payment of money? The ultimate goal? Global government. The King has no clothes on, people!

Gore won't debate

Gore won't debate. He won't have interviews without prescreened questions and he won't allow recordings of his speeches. This guy is the most elaborate hoaxer in the history of mankind. It's amazing how many people have swallowed his snake oil, hook, line and sinker. He won't change his lifestyle for the most important crisis facing mankind. He spends more in energy bills in one month than I do all year. He flies private corporate jets without them being full. He drives gas-guzzling SUV's, etc., etc., etc. He will not debate anyone because he will be found out to be the fraud that he is.
