London - Former Liverpool midfielder Sammy Lee returned to the club Friday as assistant manager to Rafa Benitez. Lee served as reserve-team coach under Graeme Souness and then first-team coach under Gerard Houllier before leaving to take up coaching positions with England and Bolton.
He was appointed Bolton manager after Sam Allardyce's departure last summer but was sacked in October.
Lee replaces Alex Miller, who left earlier this month to take up a coaching position in Japan.
