Amman - Jordan's national carrier, Royal Jordanian, resumed flights to Beirut Thursday night after a one-week halt prompted by military clashes in Lebanon between militias of the Islamic group Hezbollah and forces of pro-government factions. The first RJ journey from Amman to Beirut took off at 8:15 pm (1715 GMT) Thursday, the airline's CEO Samer Majali was quoted as saying by the official Petra news agency.

"We have decided to resume RJ flights to Beirut after the improvement of the security situation there and the reopening of roads and outlets leading to Beirut International Airport," Majali said.

RJ is going to operate three flights to Beirut daily as usual as of Friday, he added.
