EXTRA: MP survives murder attempt, blast in Baghdad's green zone

Baghdad - A member of the Iraqi Accord Front parliamentary bloc survived an assassination attempt Wednesday amid reports of an explosion in Baghdad's green zone, according to Iraqi media. MP Abdul-Karim al-Samaraay survived an assassination attempt when a bomb targeted him in the Alawy area of central Baghdad, a spokesman of Baghdad's security operation told the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency. The blast resulted in the killing of one of his security guards and the injury of another four. Meanwhile, witnesses told VOI that an explosion occurred in Baghdad's fortified green zone, resulting in causalities. The reason for the explosion was not immediately known and there were no firm figures for causalities available.
