Ingolstadt, Germany - Audi is expanding the TT coupe and roadster range with a new lightweight entry level engine with an output of 118 kW/160 hp. The 1.8 TFSI four-cylinder engine with turbocharger and direct injection weighs only 135 kilogrammes, according to the car maker.

Another feature contributing to more fuel efficiency is a new type of demand-based control strategy for the oil pump which provides only the amount of oil needed by the engine, Audi says.

Fuel consumption is listed at just 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres for the coupe and 6.9 litres for the roadster.

Also new to the Audi TT lineup is quattro all-wheel drive for the top-selling 2.0 TFSI. The high-tech S tronic transmission shifts through its six gears without any perceptible interruption in the power flow.

Audi lists the price in Germany for the entry level TT 1.8 TFSI coupe at 29,400 euros (45,730 dollars). The 2.0 TFSI quattro S tronic lists for 37,250 euros (57,940 dollars).
