Milan - Police authorities in Catania have banned fans of Roma from the crucial Serie A game next weekend against the struggling Sicily side, ANSA reported Tuesday. Roma hope to leapfrog leaders Inter Milan, who play the season's last game at relegation-threatened Parma with a one-point lead.
Catania hope to escape relegation remaining ahead of third-from-bottom Parma.
The Catania police chief said he was "not pleased to say" that Roma fans would not be allowed to travel to Catania.
"We have not forgotten what happened in February of last year (2007), with the death of police officer Raciti (during a regional derby with Palermo)," he said.
He added that there was friction between the fans of Roma and Catania and "we cannot ignore the precedents, which advise the maximum attention."
