Washington - Can a faster computer allow you to surf the internet with fewer lags? Yes, but only to a point. The speed of your computer has relatively little to do with pure internet performance. Most of the time you spend waiting will be a result of a slow internet connection, not a slow machine. But a fast machine will speed the processing of multimedia-laden web pages that appear increasingly on the internet. --------

Washington - Buying more memory for your computer allows you to run more programs at a time. But before you spend a lot on memory (RAM), be sure you know which type of memory your computer accepts. There are many types on the market. To determine which kind your computer needs, you could consult your computer manual, call the manufacturer or check in at the Crucial.com web site. Use the Memory Advisor there to determine exactly which memory to buy for your system.

Washington - Keeping track of the time around the world can be a challenge - especially if you are a globetrotter, constantly moving from one time zone to another. Thankfully, WorldTime, a free utility available on the internet, can help you keep track of what time it is in any time zone on earth. The program includes some 1,342 locations around the world. Download WorldTime from http://www.pawprint.net/wt/.

--------

Washington - You can close minimized programs directly from the Windows taskbar. Instead of maximizing a program and then closing it, just right-click the program's icon on the taskbar, and select Close from the pop-up menu. If the application contains unsaved documents, you'll be prompted to save, or the icon will flash, indicating that action on your part is required.

--------

Washington- "Tweaking" personal computers or software refers to pushing the technology to its limits and uncovering hidden features. The practice of tweaking everything from your computer's central processing unit (CPU) to your mouse is exactly the theme of Tweak3D.net (http:// www.tweak3d.net). The web site regularly offers files that help you get the most out of your computer and hosts dozens of discussion forums for computer gurus.
