Beirut - Two people were killed and two wounded Friday in Khaldeh town south of Beirut during clashes between opposition and pro-government supporters, a security official said. It happened in "a confrontation between Sunni supporters of the majority bloc and militants loyal to Druze opposition leader Talal Arslan," the official said. Those killed were followers Arslan, who is a rival of Walid Jumblatt.
The new deaths raise the toll to 15 killed and more than 60 wounded in the third day of fighting between the opposition led by Hezbollah and followers of the majority.
The incident came amid high tension in Lebanon which has been rocked by the worst sectarian clashes since the end of the 1975-1990 civil war.
Meanwhile, clashes were reported in the northern city of Tripoli between supporters of Sunni majority leader Saad Hariri and supporters of former prime minister Omar Karami.
