London - Troubled British rock singer Pete Doherty was freed from prison in London Tuesday after serving just 29 days of a 14-week sentence for breaching his probation in connection with drugs offences. The 29-year-old Babyshambles frontman was sentenced on April 8 for breaching conditions of his probation order and for not appearing for hearings on time.
He left Wormwood Scrubs Prison in West London early Tuesday, wearing a suit and tie, and told reporters he was glad to be free.
He would be having a drink of rum and coke and was looking forward to spending some time with his pet cats.
Doherty has repeatedly been sentenced for drug offences. His latest effort to break the habit has been punctuated by failings.
Reports said that while in prison, the singer had to be under special protection because he was under threat of attack from fellow-inmates in connection with drug issues.
