London - The parents of Madeleine McCann attended a private church service in their home town in Britain Saturday to mark the first anniversary of her disappearance in Portugal. At the multi-faith service in the Anglican church in Rothley, in the county of Leicestershire, prayers were said for four-year-old Madeleine and "all other missing children."
Kate and Gerry McCann have said the anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, last year, is an "intensely private day" for them.
Church services will also be held at other churches in Britain and in the small church of Praia da Luz.
Later Saturday evening, to mark the exact hour Madeleine disappeared, supporters have been asked to say prayers and light candles for the missing girl.
