Bangkok - Thailand is to host the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in June, kicking off the event with the premiere of the film Sarkar Raj, organizers said Wednesday. The premiere is scheduled for June 6 for the film starring Indian film icon Amitabh Bachchan and other members of the Bachchan acting clan, and the event is to culminated in the handing out of the awards June 8.
"I am delighted that my forthcoming film, Sarkar Raj, is being premiered at the prestigious IIFA World Premier 2008 Bangkok and am eagerly looking forward to this splendid event," Bachchan said at a press conference in Bangkok.
The event was expected to draw Bollywood fans to Bangkok from around the region and was hoped to generate more business between India and Thailand, which have signed a trade agreement.
The IIFA Weekend Bangkok is being sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dusit Thani Hotel group, Siam Niramit Co, Indorama Group and the Bangkok Post newspaper.
