Paris - Organizers of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday announced that they have added three films to the 19 announced last week to compete for the festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or. The films are Two Lovers by US director James Gray, Entre les Murs (Between the Walls) by Frenchman Laurent Cantet, and Blindness, by Brazil's Fernando Mereilles.

Two Lovers is a romantic drama set in Brooklyn and stars Joaquin Phoenix, who appeared in Gray's critically acclaimed We Own the Night, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Cantet's film, the third French movie in the running for the Palme d'Or, was written by and features writer and film critic François Begaudeau.

Blindness is based on Portuguese Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago's international best-selling novel and will open the festival, which runs from May 14 to 25.

In addition, festival organizers said actor Robert de Niro has been chosen to present the Palme d'Or to the winner during the closing ceremonies on May 25.
