London - Prince Philip, husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, was released from hospital on Sunday after a three-day stay during which he was treated for a chest infection. The 86-year-old Duke of Edinburgh, who was admitted to London's King Edward VII hospital on Thursday, returned to Windsor Castle. His admission to hospital had been described as precautionary only.

Philip has been married to the queen for more than 60 years and is said to be in robust health despite his advanced age.

His last public engagement was March 27 when he attended the formal send-off for French President Nicolas Sarkozy at Windsor Castle with the queen.

Buckingham Palace, the seat of the British monarchy, did not cancel the duke's appointments for the coming week.
