Amsterdam - The Freedom Party appears to have lost support in the Netherlands after its leader Geert Wilders released an anti- Islam film that was met with widespread criticism around the world, according to a weekly opinion poll released Friday. Wilders' film Fitna, which draws links between terrorist acts by Muslim extremists and the words of the Koran, was released on the internet Thursday night and drew quick condemnation from the Dutch government and other world leaders.
A survey conducted by polling agency Synovate/Interview NSS showed the party would get 10 seats in the 150-member parliament if elections were held today, down from 12 seats in last week's poll. The Freedom Party currently holds seven seats.
The Christian Democrats - the leading coalition party - gains four seats in the poll compared to last week, bringing its total number of seats to 39, two seats less than it won in November 2006 parliamentary elections.
Labour, the second largest coalition party, continues to lose out and would get only 26 seats according to the poll, two less than last week and seven less than it has currently.
The smallest coalition party, the Christian Union, would win three more seats, bringing its total number to an unprecedented nine seats.
