Turin, Italy - Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon plans to take three weeks off before Euro 2008 in order to treat his troubled back ahead of the big tournament. The Gazzetta dello Sport daily reported on Friday that Buffon, 30, aims to rest as soon as his club Juventus Turin have clinched a place in the European Champions League (either directly or via qualifying).
"I would around 20 days of rest in order to be fully fit again," said Buffon, who has missed three league matches this season over the backaches.
Juve are third in the Serie A with fourth place granting the last entry berth for the CL. Juve are nine points clear of number five AC Milan with eight games left to play.
The domestic season ends May 18 and the world champions Italy gather a week later on May 25 to prepare for the June 7-29 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
