Stockholm - A forest worker was Wednesday attacked and seriously injured by a bear in the province of Dalarna, north-west of Stockholm, Swedish radio reported. He was clearing some forest with two co-workers when he spotted the bear and tried to escape. The bear caught up with him and bit him in the head, leg and left arm, the report said.
The co-workers alerted emergency services and tried to stem the bleeding in the arm with a belt. The man, in his 40s, was later taken to hospital. Details of the injuries were not released.
Police said they planned to shoot the bear, which they said was probably angered by the noise of the forest worker's chain saw.
Fatal bear attacks are not common in Sweden. There have been several attacks in recent years involving hunters, often with dogs.
A 40-year-old hunter was killed by a bear in October 2004, the first such case since 1902.
