Four US soldiers killed in Iraq brings total death toll to 4,000

Washington - The death of four US soldiers in Iraq on Sunday has brought to 4,000 the total number of troops killed since the beginning of the Iraq war just over five years ago. The US military in a statement said four soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb during a patrol in southern Baghdad, after three soldiers were killed in a similar explosion in northwest Baghdad on Saturday.

The weekend attacks brought the number of total US fatalities to exactly 4,000 since the March 20, 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, according to icasualties.org, a website that keeps track of reported US military deaths in the country.
