Baghdad - At least 12 people were killed Sunday in two separate explosions in the Iraqi capital Sunday, while the death toll of a suicide bombing in a site of the Iraqi army in the northern city of Mosul rose to 13, media reports said. Militants killed seven people with a bomb in Baghdad's Zafarneyia district, as another five were killed in another blast in the Kamiliya district, al-Jazeera news channel said.
In other news, the death toll of a suicide attack in Mosul, some 400 kilometres north of Baghdad, rose to 13 Iraqi soldiers, while the number of wounded reached 30, including 12 civilians, the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency said.
An explosive laden-vehicle was detonated in Haramat area western Mosul in the early hours of Sunday, targeting a site of the Iraqi army, VOI said.
Earlier, sources told VOI that the explosion killed five civilians and wounded 20 Iraqi soldiers.
In another development, five civilians were wounded, three seriously, when mortar shells hit the city of Kut about 150 kilometres south-east of Baghdad, VOI said.
Two residential areas in the city were hit by five mortar shells in the early hours of Sunday, police told VOI.
Sources said troops were deployed across the city to investigate the attack.
Two weeks ago Kut witnessed intense clashes between militants and Iraqi forces, leaving at least 11 dead and 40 injured, including women and children.
Meanwhile, a rocket also struck a house in Baghdad's Karada district, wounding two civilians and damaging near-by houses, VOI said. The injured were taken to hospital after the blast.
