Davao City, Philippines - Three people were killed when a drunken man accidentally exploded a grenade he was playing with during a dance party in southern Philippines, a police report said Saturday. Fifteen more were injured in the incident that occurred late Friday at a dance party in Sulop town in Davao Del Sur province, 965 kilometres south of Manila.
The report said a drunken man was dancing and appeared to be toying with the fragmentation grenade when he accidentally detonated it. The man was among the those killed.
Investigators were still determining how the man got his deadly toy. Guns, ammunition and all kinds of explosives are common in the southern region of Mindanao which has been wracked by more than three decades of Muslim and communist insurgencies.
