Planica, Slovenia - Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer on Friday jumped to victory in a World Cup ski-flying competition held in the Slovenian town of Planica. Schlierenzauer, who trails his compatriot Thomas Morgenstern in the overall World Cup standings, won with jumps of 232.5 and 225 metres, which earned him 447 points.

Finland's Janne Ahonen was second with 427.8 points, while Norwegian Bjoern Einar Romoeren was third.

"That was like the crowning glory of a super season. I am just happy with my first jump. That frees me so much for the next one it is unbelievable," he said.

With one event of the season remaining, Morgenstern leads the standings with 1,780 points, while Schlierenzauer is second with 1,461 points. Ahonen is third on 1,246 points.
