Amman - A German tourist was stabbed near al-Husseini Grand Mosque in downtown Amman Friday, spokesman for the Public Security Department (PSD) Major Mohammad Khatib said. The German citizen, who was not identified, was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery and his condition was now "stable," Khatib was quoted as saying by the official news agency Petra. A policeman who was in the vicinity managed to capture the culprit, who was being questioned about his motives, he added. Acting Prime Minister Eid al-Fayez and the PSD chief hurried to the hospital to inquire about the German victim's health, Petra said.
