Taipei - South Korea and Canada won the tickets to the 2008 Olympics on Wednesday in the final qualifying baseball games for wild cards for Beijing. In the afternoon games, South Korea beat Germany 12-0, and Canada trounced Spain 11-0.
In the evening games, Taiwan overcame Australia 5-0, while Mexico finished South Africa 6-0.
The evening game was critical for Taiwan because it has almost assured Taiwan of a berth in the Beijing Olympics.
Taiwan will face South Africa Thursday and meet South Korea Friday.
Although Taiwan is almost certain to lose to South Korea on Friday, the country only needs to beat South Africa to get the ticket to Beijing.
By Wednesday, South Korea leads with five wins and no loss, Canada and Taiwan have four wins and a loss each, Australia, Germany and Mexico have two wins and three losses each, Spain has one win and four losses, and South Africa has no win and five losses.
The Olympic final baseball qualifying tournament began on March 7 with eight national teams participating. It gives the teams which failed to win in regional qualifying games a chance to vie for three wild cards to the August 8-24 Beijing Olympics.
To win entry to the Beijing Olympics, a participating team must have at least five wins.
