Jerusalem- The Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni will head to the United States Sunday night for talks with senior officials, a statement on the ministry's website said. She is expected to meet with Vice President Dick Cheney as well as Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice among other leaders to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip, the peace process, Iran and other issues.

Before leaving she met with visiting US envoy James Jones and told him that the situation in Gaza, along with the recent attack on a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem which killed eight, have "strengthened a lack of faith in the peace process."

She also said that the formation of a Palestinian state alone would not answer Israel's security needs, but rather her country would need people on the Palestinian side "who can fight terrorism," local media reported.
