Washington - Senator John McCain, the Republican Party's likely presidential nominee, Monday called for Venezuela and Ecuador to remove their troops from the Colombian border. McCain called the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), whose second-in-command was killed by Colombian military forces who crossed over into Ecuador on Saturday, one of the world's "premier terrorist organizations" which has been kidnapping, murdering and promoting the drug trade for decades.

Venezuela and Ecuador have moved troops to the Colombian border to protest the killing. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has negotiated the release of a handful of the hundreds of hostages being held by FARC for years, and wants FARC to be given political legitimacy.

McCain called Colombia a "vital ally" who has been working with the US to stem the flow of illegal drugs northwards into the US.

"I want to reiterate our partnership and friendship with President Uribe and the government of Colombia," McCain said. "I hope the tensions will be relaxed and that President Chavez will remove his troops from the border, as well as the Ecuadorians."

The US government had not yet officially reacted to the situation.

McCain

I think Chavez should do what he wants in his own country. Maybe McCain should explain why many files from the Vietnam period are still under lock and key. I think McCain could become the next controlled leader of the Corporatocricy known as the USA because of his dirty secrets.

McCain

McCain is not only a total ignorant fraud and a dangerous liar, he is both fascistic and certifiably Mad...Insane, and should be commited to a rubber room.
His "war record" flying a total of 10 hour high-altitude bombing-slaughtering fellow human beings in another criminal/illegal war makes him not a hero but a colod blooded killer.
ALL his public statements call for war forever.

Senator McCain's statement is filled with lies.

Whereas, the facts show that Senator McCain is supporting a dictator. McCain hasn't any idea what constitutes a "terrorist organization” seeing how he killed innocent Vietnamese people in his bombing raids.

Citizen McCain
By: Gene C. , Tue, 04 Mar 2008 01:00:38 GMT

Today, John McCain defended the military crossing of Ecuador's border by the Colombian government to hunt down a political adversary. But would he support the same scenario if say Canada launched a military “search-and-destroy” mission within the territorial U.S.? Perhaps, but I don’t think so. Yet, he clearly shows a lack of respect for Ecuador’s borders in this case. Does John McCain have some overriding rational that justifies invasion and applies in all cases, including the invasion of the U.S.?

The idea of symmetry in international law is not a concept one associates with the policies of the Bush administration. In tipping his hand on Venezuela vis-à-vis Ecuador, the failed actions and rationalizations of the Bush government are renewed in John McCain. There are character flaws, and there are tragic character-flaws. John McCain is in possession of the later and his election will most certainly result in the same tragic consequences as his predecessor. Consequences too that will be avoidable. I therefore do not wish to see John McCain succeed in his run for President of the United States and hope that you will reconsider your vote and give your support to someone who will demonstrate authentic fairness and equanimity in the face of challenge.
