Berlin - German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to meet Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Berlin next week, a government spokesman said on Friday. Spokesman Thomas Steg said the two leaders would discuss bilateral issues, regional affairs and trade during their talks on March 6 at the federal chancellery.
Dung will be given a military welcome before the talks, which follow a meeting between the Vietnamese leader and German Economics Minister Michael Glos earlier in the day.
Dung and his delegation will be taking part in a German-Vietnamese forum during their visit.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is currently visiting Hanoi, where he conferred with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Gia Khiem.
Trade between the two countries grew 40 per cent last year to 3.4 billion euros (5.1 billion dollars).
